Countdown to Canvas - LMS Implementation Update #8

This has been a very busy week for the technical team and faculty in the transition from Sakai to Canvas. Read more on what we have done, what we are doing, and what the next steps are as we continue through the implementation process of IC’s new LMS, Canvas. 

What we have done 

  • Uploaded all Fall 2021 courses into Canvas with an IC Design Template and a Course Blueprint applied; provided instructions in each course for modifying the blueprint to meet your teaching needs. 
  • Prepared documentation to help faculty use migrated course(s)/content to design Fall 2021 courses, and help faculty use the pre-made course blueprint in their Fall courses. This will be attached to an email message that will be sent out to all faculty members the week of by June 4.   
  • Provided Canvas training around the IDEAL framework (Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, Accessible Learning) to 75+ faculty members during the Summer Institute. 

What we are doing 

  • Completing Wave 1 of a bulk migration of Sakai course content and creating a copy in Canvas; including Fall 2020, Winter 2021, and Spring 2021 academic course sites. We will be providing faculty access to that content very soon. (Expected completion date is June 4).  
  • Continuing to modify IC’s Canvas platform and prepare for official launch in August 2021. Please continue to teach all summer courses in Sakai. 
  • Developing documentation, online resources, and curating self-paced learning opportunities for students and faculty; to be shared out with the campus community throughout the summer.  

Your next steps 

  • Faculty can review Fall 2021 course sites. If you see any errors, please email the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@ithaca.edu
  • Go through the self-paced Canvas Training resources - found in the "Hello Canvas! Faculty Quick Guide" which was provided in an email to all faculty.  
  • Visit the Canvas Resources @ IC course in Canvas. A resource for faculty to get started with Canvas and support during the transition https://canvas.ithaca.edu/courses/3270/  (Ithaca College login required).
