Join IC Intercambios for a screening of "After I Pick the Fruit" at Cinemapolis, April 26th at 5pm. Follow the story of migrant female farmworkers who pick apples in central NY. Tickets at $6 and all proceeds go towards providing English education materials to teach farmworkers in the local Ithaca area.

The Leadership Scholars program recognizes students with a demonstrated record of academic and co-curricular achievements. Students enter the program during their first year at Ithaca College and take on new leadership challenges every semester until they graduate. Components of the program include service projects, professional development, and leadership in student organizations that is recorded in leadership portfolios that are presented to administrators and peers every semester.

Stephen Tropiano, associate professor of screen studies, received a Service Award for his nine years as a Lifeline Counselor for The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people.

Katalin Lustyik gave an invited guest lecture entitled "Media Studies in the 21st Century: Researching Children's Media Culture" hosted by the Department of Communication at Corvinus University, in Budapest, Hungary on April 20, 2015.

Lustyik is an associate professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies (Television-Radio Program).

Dr. Orlando-Marquez C. Kittrell, Manager of IC’s Office of State Grants (HEOP and CSTEM) in the Center for Academic Advancement, recently presented at the Thirteenth Biennial Conference of the Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs.  His workshop, entitled “Make it Happen! Creating Connections for ALANA Student Development in STEM” was selected from a record number of submissions.

Congratulations to the students who participated in the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington on April 4/16 – 4/18, 2015.

As a program of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), established in 1987, promotes undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study through an annual conference for students. The first conference drew more than 400 participants from schools across the country. Now in existence for over twenty-five years, the conference regularly hosts more than 3,000 students and their faculty mentors to present their research through posters, oral presentations, visual arts and performances. NCUR was held at Ithaca College in 2011.

Aspiring writers are welcome to join us at the Park Auditorium today at 4:30 - 6 pm for the Asian American Creative Writing Workshop, which will help us understand the very broad and diverse genre of Asian American literature, as well as how to improve your own writing. Participants are welcome to bring their own work for feedback.

This week’s focus: Reimagining the Learning Space at IC

Please join the TELE Collaborative as we host opportunities to visit and discuss learning space design across the Ithaca College campus throughout the spring. We will explore the innovation of the physical environment and discuss the impact that learning space design can have on teaching, student engagement and learning.   The goal is to solicit ideas from faculty users and multiple units on campus as collaborative stakeholders.  We intend to seek advice and recommendations for future classroom renovation and upgrades.

Don’t forget to come to IC’s Annual Family Carnival hosted by the Student United Way. Activities for all ages include arts and crafts, face painting, and an inflated bounce houses! There will also be live performances, a raffle, and snacks.

The event is on Friday, April 24th from 5:30 to 8 pm in the gyms on the lower level of the Fitness Center. Entry is $3 for kids, $5 for anyone over 18, and $16 for parties of 5 or more. Members of IC Student United Way organize and run the Family Carnival. All proceeds benefit the ICSUW's fall grant program, during which funds are allocated to organizations in the Ithaca community.

 Did you know that $3 can help a child in need? Until April 24, Dining Services Retail Locations are taking donations at the registers for the BackPack Program for Food Bank of the Southern Tier. 

You may donate any amount, but if you can spare $3.00, it'll supply a BackPack full of nutritious food for a child who otherwise might not be able to have 3 meals a day over the weekend. 

Donate today at  at Grand Central Café, Food Court, Sandella's Flatbreads, Business School Café, Park Café, and CHS Coffee Cart.
