The course encourages students' own self-exploration of their identities and introduces them to the Personal Essay genre through assigned readings and writing practice. Various techniques of narrative and reflective storytelling also are taught. The course is ideal for students in Ithaca, at home, or on the move, as it's online and all the work will be turned in digitally. Dr. Elizabeth Peterson, Professor of music education and conductor of the Symphonic Band at Ithaca College, was just honored with membership in the prestigious American Bandmasters Association. Invitation to membership is extended to only a few conductors annually, and follows a rigorous vetting process. It is considered a pinnacle achievement in the world of wind bands.
