When the love of Edie Windsor’s life died, she was forced to pay additional estate taxes because the federal government did not recognize her marriage to Thea Spyer. Edie would become the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, resulting in the Supreme Court ruling in June that the federal ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series will show “Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement,” a documentary capturing the story of these two women and how their simple love for one another changed history at 7 p.m. in Textor 101 on Thursday September 12, and it is free and open to the public.

Contributed by MaryAnn Taylor on 09/09/13

Contributed on behalf of Provost Marisa Kelly:

I would like to continue the series of monthly meetings and invite you to please join me at “Coffees with the Provost” beginning in September.  My goal is to create a place for informal chat in a small group setting with faculty, staff and students.  In order for me to do this in an informal manner, I must limit these meetings to no more than 12 people at a time.  Therefore, I ask that you please RSVP to MaryAnn Taylor (mataylor@ithaca.edu) if you wish to join me for one of these meetings.

The following meetings have been scheduled for September, October, and November.  I do hope you will join me.
