War on Drugs: Block II course

Contributed by Stewart Auyash on 02/14/20

INFILTRATING THE WAR ON DRUGS

FLEFF: Infiltrating the War on Drugs - 43540 - GCOM 10116 - 01(1 credit)

Tues/Thurs 4-5:15. Hill Center G03.

Why is there a War on Drugs? It’s time to infiltrate enemy lines and the weapons, arguments, casualties, and causes of the US War on Drugs. What can we uncover about the assumptions and ideologies that have led so many drugs to be legal while others are not? Is the War on Drugs about making people criminals  or is drug use a normal part of being human?  Are there other countries that have a war on drugs? Or are there places where all drugs are decriminalized or legal? Bring your investigative eyes and minds as we spy across borders to answer these questions.

This course is part of FLEFF (Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival). Students will receive discounted tickets to see amazing films at the downtown theater, Cinemapolis for March 27-20.
For more information about the course, contact Prof. Stewart Auyash at auyash@ithaca.edu.

Chris's chapter, "Kazuo Ishiguro's Thinking Novels", is part of the fifth volume of the Companion. It looks at the so-called genre novels of Ishiguro's canon as experiments with the possibilities of literary form to shape ways of being and knowing.

TCAT Pedestrian Awareness Campaign

Contributed by Elyse Nepa on 02/13/20

Dear Campus Community:

Safety is always TCAT’s number-one priority. One of the biggest challenges bus operators face on a daily basis are “blind spots” – structures inside the bus that obscure their vision outside the bus.

TCAT bus operators are trained to look around these blind spots, but we are asking for your help in creating a safer experience for both pedestrians and drivers.

Before you cross in front of a bus, try to make eye contact with the bus operator so that they know you are there. Be aware and cross safely, especially when there is heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic and/or when the bus is preparing to make turns.

Thank you for being a great partner with TCAT to promote the safety and wellbeing of community members.
