The Office of International Programs (OIP) would like to invite all faculty and staff members to attend a workshop designed to assist in the development of short-term study abroad programs.  Short-term study abroad programming is an important component of the overseas study options available to Ithaca College students. College faculty and staff members have successfully lead programs over the past several years to a number of different locations, including most recently Belize, Canada, China, Ecuador, Ghana, Italy, Malawi, and the United Kingdom.

Are you adopted? Do you know a friend, sibling, or someone else who is adopted? What is adoption? How does adoption relate to me? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then join Adoption Support and Awareness Alliance (ASAA). ASAA will provide a safe place to share your stories and experiences with adoption. It will also teach and inform students about various issues that come with adoption, while creating more connections and community between you and other students on campus who can relate to you. Looking for an adviser with relation to adoption, and who has an open mind that accepts all kinds of diversity for Adoption Support and Awareness Alliance. Adoption Support and Awareness Alliance (ASAA) will provide a safe place for students with any relation to adoption to share their stories, and go to for support. Matt Mogekwu, associate professor in the Department of Journalism, recently presented his paper, “Media as bridge builders and mediators in an era of global insurgency and social unrest: Challenges and Opportunities,” at the Peace Journalism Commission of the International Peace Research Association conference in Japan. While at the conference, Mogekwu was elected as a member of the Association’s governing council for a second two-year term.

Mogekwu was also published in a new book, Re-Imagining Development Communication in Africa, in which he wrote a chapter titled "Going back to basics: Shifting research focus to Indigenous Knowledge Systems and their role in development."
 

Tom Nicholson, associate professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, served as editorial consultant on the upcoming Silicon Valley, part of the American Experience series on PBS. The show is scheduled to air on Tuesday, February 5 at 9 p.m. on WNCY.

Silicon Valley features Robert Noyce's invention of the microchip and how it re-shaped the future, launching the world into the Information Age.

Nicholson has worked on previous PBS broadcasts, including another American Experience film, Goldrush, and an episode of Fabric of the Cosmos, a four-part series for Nova, which was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy.

Waraich's talk will examine how harems and veils, historically associated with private and public spaces respectively, have been imagined and reconstructed in Western imagination and negotiated in contemporary visual media, street and protest art, galleries and museums.

On January 19, 2013, Leigh Ann Vaughn presented research done with her Social Judgment Research Team at the annual convention of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in New Orleans, LA. Her coauthors on this poster were Abigail Dubovi ('11) and N. Paul Niño ('11).  The title of this presentation was "'Mindfulness Moderates the Effect of Processing Fluency on Continuing Tasks for Enjoyment."
