Service Saturdays is a volunteer program based out of the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs that works to pair IC students with volunteer opportunities in the greater Ithaca community.

What do protests, roadblocks, hunger strikes, calls for indigenous autonomy and ethnic based demands in Latin America represent? What do they fight for, how and why, with what impact? Come find out more about this incredibly current topic in an informal dialogue among faculty and students with visiting speaker from Chile, Christian Martínez Neira, author of several books and articles on indigenous autonomy and representation in Chile, Mexico, and Latin America in general. IC faculty members working on this research area will also give short presentation of their work in Colombia, Bolivia, Chile and others.

I just want to Thank everyone who showed up at the Cortaca Blood Drive Challenge last month. We won by a land slide, 284 units for Ithaca and 65 units for Cortland. Our break down was Tuesday October 2nd: First time donors 53, whole blood 102, and double red blood cell donation 41, for a total of 143 units . Wednesday October 3rd: First time donors 60, whole blood 109, double red blood cells donation 17 for a total of 141 units. Thank you to everyone who rolled up there sleeves for the Red Cross, You helped save many lives!!!!!! Plus ,we won again for the 3rd year in a row!!!!!!

 In honor of Hip-Hop History Month, IC's African-Latino Society presents: "I Used to Love Hearing.Every.Rhyme." To kickoff this week-long celebration, ALS is hosting a showcase and panel dedicated to the origins and core elements of hip hop!

Ithaca College is one of nine institutions nationwide awarded grants from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for projects focusing on the gender pay gap for graduating students. Ithaca’s project — “TIA Talks: Addressing the Pay Gap Among Recent College Graduates” — will include a series of workshops on topics ranging from self-advocacy to salary negotiation skills.

Thank Goodness IC is Fabulous! As of Friday afternoon (Nov. 16), our Ithaca College United Way campaign stands at 73% of our fundraising goal, with $47,419 pledged. 192 members of our campus community - including some generous retirees! - have stepped up so far, with participation from 37 first-time donors, almost 20% of those responding so far. That's tremendous, but we have still only heard from about 11% of our campus community. C'mon!! What are you waiting for...?

Save the date! The Senior Class Semi-Formal, "From Ithaca With Love," is THIS SATUDRDAY, December 1st in Emerson Suites from 9pm-12am. This is a 21+ event ONLY!

 

Tickets will be on sale from November 26-30 from 9am-3pm in the Campus Center foyer, outside Grand Central Cafe. Tickets are $25 for Senior Card holders and $35 for non- senior card holders and guests.

 

Ticket price includes:

  • Admission to the event
  • Food
  • Transportation: Shuttles will run from The Commons, Circles and the Therm sign on Hudson from 8:30pm until 12:30am. 
  • Coat/bag check

We are now looking for infants between 5 and 8 months of age to help us in a research study which takes place in our Movement Lab on the Ithaca College campus. The study involves testing the sitting balance of infants. You will be asked to bring your infant to our lab for three visits; the first to assess your child development and the other two sessions to test your child’s sitting balance. Each session will require approximately 30 minutes. A $20 incentive will be offered for each session that you and your infant attend.
