On Monday, November 12, in Textor 102, at 7:30 pm, Dr. Bradley Prager will give the annual Holocaust lecture. The title of his talk is “Signs of Life: Depicting the Warsaw Ghetto in A Film Unfinished.”

On Saturday, October 28th the Ithaca College School of Music hosted the annual Student Competition of the Central New York Finger Lakes Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). 

There were 28 voice teachers in attendance to adjudicate 120 singers competing in categories from high school to young professional.   Professors of voice Deborah Montgomery-Cove and Brad Hougham, serve on the executive board for the organization as president and secretary.

Most scary reasons not to miss the next No Pressure Blood Pressure this Halloween:

1. 65 million Americans have hypertension (high blood pressure)

2. Many people don't even know their blood pressure is high because there are no symptoms in most cases

3. Hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease

4. 66% of those IC employees measured at the last screening were pre-hypertensive   (above ideal )

5. A 20 point increase in systolic blood pressure (top number) or a 10 point increase in diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) doubles the risk of heart disease.

6. Poor diet, inactivity, and being overweight can lead to an increase in blood pressure

7. If one does not adopt a healthy lifestyle, the hypertensive individual will need to take costly medication with potential side effects

8. Physical and emotional stress can elevate your blood pressure

The Physical Therapy students on the Rochester Campus have scheduled a speaker for Wednesday, October 31st  at 6pm in Textor 101(via video conference for Ithaca Campus) .  The speaker is Ray Ciancaglini, a former boxer, who suffers from the side effects of repeated concussions.

Naeem Inayatullah (Politics) and Sorayya Khan conducted a workshop titled  “Fact and Fiction: Forms of Writing,” at the York Center for International and Security Studies, York University, Toronto, October 25, 2012.  

Naeem also presented “Four Hypothesis on Writing,” for a two day workshop titled “Critical Methodologies, Narrative Voice, and the Writing of the Political: The Limits of Language,” York University, Toronto, October 26-27, 2012. 

The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series at Ithaca College will host a free public showing of the documentary “Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band” on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in Textor 101.
