Dr. Gordon Rowland Appointed Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE)Contributed by MaryAnn Taylor on 08/11/19 Submitted on behalf of La Jerne Terry Cornish, Provost and Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs: It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Gordon Rowland as the new Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE). This position is a key resource in supporting and implementing the Imagining Ithaca Strategic Plan. I am delighted to appoint an exceptionally talented and well-qualified individual to fill this essential role. Presently a Professor and Program Director in the Park School of Communications, Dr. Rowland will begin a three-year term as Director, effective August 16, 2019. Our new CFE Director received his Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University following his graduate work in Music Theory at Ithaca College. He brings 37 years of classroom experience to the Center with extensive experience in mentoring, research, and scholarship. Read more . . . (41 words) Politics professor, Asma Barlas, teaches seminar in RussiaContributed by Cheryl Gunther on 08/08/19 Asma Barlas, professor of Politics, offered a seminar on Islam and feminism, including some of her own work on both, at the 17th annual session of the NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture (NYI) in St. Petersburg, Russia, from July 15-August 2nd. The seminars are taught by invitation only with the faculty coming mostly from the U.S. and the students primarily from the Russian Federation. In all, though, sixty four countries have been represented during NYI's history. This year, the students came from thirteen, including, for the first time, Iran, Saudi Arabia and S. Coming, as it does, the week before classes start for the Fall '19 semester, that is typically a very busy week in the print shop, but circumstances have left this as the only available window to install the new equipment. The print shop will remain open during this process, but turnaround times will, by necessity, be somewhat lengthened. We encourage Faculty and Staff to keep this in mind as they are submitting their orders.
