Earth Week 2007 is less than one week away! The series of events planned for the week by the Ithaca College Environmental Society (ICES) will be kicked off with a keynote address by alternative fuels expert and author Joshua Tickell on Monday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites A and B at Ithaca College.

Shawn McGuffey, an award-winning sociology professor at Boston College, will speak about gender, race, and child sexual abuse. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month. Dr McGuffey's talk is part of the Sociology Department's ongoing public sociology initiative.

Marimbist Gordon Stout will give a free recital joined by recent Ithaca College marimbist Isabelle Huang and faculty soprano Patrice Pastore at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, April 15 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at Ithaca College. The short program includes two works by John Thrower: “Just One World” and “Love Songs” from the ballet “Book of Dreams.”

The Ithaca College Jazz program will present two free concerts: The Tuesday-Thursday Jazz Band performs with guest vocal soloist Giacomo Gates on Friday, April 13, and the Wednesday Jazz Band welcomes Emily Wilkins and Ellen Quinn as vocal soloists on Thursday, April 19. Both concerts begin at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall under the direction of Steve Brown. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble under Lauri Robinson-Keegan’s direction will make a guest appearance on the April 13 concert as well.

Mark Decarlo, PT, MHA, SCS, ATC will be giving a lecture Monday, April 16th 2007 at 6:30 pm in Textor 102: "Evidence Based Rehabilitation Following ACL Reconstruction: A 20 Year Perspective." Light refreshments will be served. This is open to the campus community.

Chemistry Club Adopts an Acre of Rainforest

Using proceeds from fundraising projects, the Chemistry Club donated money to the Nature Conservancy in order to protect and restore threatened tropical rainforest land in Rift Valley, Kenya and Tanzania.
