The Center for IDEAS and student organizations all over Ithaca College have been working to make this month one that honors Black History at our institution in an engaging way. Below are events happening on campus, ranging from a student organization-run Talent Showcase to educational sessions on blackness and social justice work. (339 words) Join the inaugural cohort of BOLD scholars for their first Engaging Mental Health in People of Color (EMPOC) event of the Spring 2019 semester!Contributed by Belisa Gonzalez on 02/18/19 EMPOC will be kicking off its semester-long social media campaign with a self-care photoshoot. Community members can stop by the North Foyer outside of Emerson Suites to get their pictures taken and share how they practice self-care. Attendees are encouraged to post their photos on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #EMPOCselfcare to normalize and encourage self-care among people of color as a radical act of self preservation and empowerment. All photos posted with the hashtag #EMPOCselfcare will be entered into a raffle to win one of three happy therapy lights. Stop by to have fun, unwind and support a powerful message. (3daystartup.org) 3DS is an opportunity to teach students how to start companies through self directed learning. Over the 3 day event, 45-50 participants will be selected to come up with ideas and form teams to develop their own startup company. Throughout the process, mentors will be able to help guide the team’s progress and help them create a polished final pitch to panelists.
