IC Soul: Wonder

This Wednesday is our last IC Soul for the Fall semester. IC Soul* is a weekly 30-minute interactive shared reflection space for any student, staff, or faculty regardless of religious, spiritual or non-religious worldview. Hosted by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life.

The Public Health Task Force and the College Move-in Committee have been hard at work to ensure that we prioritize the health and safety of our entire community as we plan to welcome students back to Ithaca for the spring 2021 semester. In the past, we organize in the fall to greet students and their families, and help students move into the residence halls, but the bulk of students will be moving in this spring. There are unique situations requiring increased support to ensure safety and efficiency during this process.

The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival and Cinemapolis present a talkback on 76 DAYS, a new film from China chronicling the COVID crisis in Wuhan from the ground up.

The talkback is slated for Thursday December 10 from 6-7:15 p.m. It features Dr. Stewart Auyash, Associate Professor of Public Health; Dr. Elizabeth Wijaya, Assistant Professor of  East Asian Cinema, University of Toronto; and Rikun Zhu, independent filmmaker from China.

76 DAYS opens at Cinemapolis Virtual Cinema on Friday December 4.

Dear Campus Community:  

The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act was passed in 1989 as part of the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act and requires institutions of higher education that receive federal funding to execute a drug and alcohol abuse prevention program for its campus community.  As part of this, the college is required to notify all members of the campus community on an annual basis about the various prevention and education programs, resources, policies, and laws.

There are spots still available in Understanding Disability for the Spring Semester! (RLS 12500) 

This is a great opportunity to get your ICC Diversity elective covered! It is one of the most sought after courses at Ithaca College! Learn about a wide spectrum of intellectual, physical, and emotional impairments highlighting autism spectrum disorder. Other topics include self-advocacy, historical and current barriers, family perspectives and current trends in educational and community services for people with disabilities. Coursework includes interactive speakers and relevant and relatable assignments that are important in today's world. 

Understanding Disability is offered Tuesday nights from 6:50-9:30 via online synchronous instruction! 

A panel of the National Advertising Review Board (NARB), the appellate advertising law body of BBB National Programs, has recommended that Young Living Essential Oils, LC (Young Living) discontinue “therapeutic grade” claims for its “essential oils,” as well as unsupported health and wellness benefit claims.The case panel was chaired by IMC professor Scott Hamula.

The advertising at issue, as well as other claims, had been challenged by S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. (SCJ) before the National Advertising Division (NAD) of BBB National Programs. Following NAD’s decision (Case No. 6385), Young Living appealed all aspects of NAD’s findings adverse to it.

 As a newly selected Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars Program partner school, Ithaca College undergraduate students are now eligible to participate in the Davis UWC Projects for Peace initiative.

Projects for Peace is an initiative for all undergraduate students currently enrolled at one of the participating Davis United World College Scholars Program partner schools (and a few other institutions) to design grassroots projects for the summer of 2021 - anywhere in the world - which promote peace and address the root causes of conflict among parties. Applicants are encouraged to use their creativity to design projects and employ innovative techniques for engaging project participants in ways that focus on conflict resolution, reconciliation, building understanding and breaking down barriers which cause conflict, and finding solutions for resolving conflict and maintaining peace. Projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each.
