Ellie Fitts Fulmer (IC Department of Education), and long-time collaborator Sally Wolfe (Allentown School District, Pennsylvania) delivered an invited talk for the American Association of University Women’s regional NYS District III conference on Saturday, October 24, at the Museum of the Earth. Their talk, titled, “Solving for ‘X’ (Chromosome): Toys, Games, and Books to Inspire Problem Solving in Young Children” focused on creating inviting and stimulating environments for girls and boys to learn together in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) areas. Assistant Professor Fulmer joined the Ithaca College Department of Education in August 2013, and researches and writes about multicultural issues, literacy, and science. She teaches courses in social studies and literacy for the Education Department, and coordinates the new Education Studies Minor, an interdisciplinary, social justice oriented program.

 The Ithaca College Physical Therapy Association will be holding its annual 5K for physical therapy research on November 8, 2015. All proceeds will be donated to the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge.

There are still seats available for the three performances this weekend of this original theatre piece based on interviews with survivors of the Partition on Friday October 30 (8PM) and Saturday October 31 (2PM and 7PM). For ticket reservations please email thisstaineddawnusatour@gmail.com. Include name, performance choice, and number of tickets requested. You will receive a confirmation email.

There will be a reception with the company following the Friday evening performance. Jason Freitag (History) will present a talk on Partition prior to the Saturday matinee at 1pm in the Dillingham lobby.  Service Saturdays is coming soon here at Ithaca College on November 7! We have an exciting group of local sites in Tompkins County that we’ll be volunteering with:

-       Cayuga Nature Center: Help clear hiking trails and clean grounds, while enjoying the fall weather at the same time!

-       South Hill Elementary School: Help rake leaves and clean up debris on the school’s grounds!

-       Tompkins County Public Library: Help clean up the library’s flower garden and plant tulip bulbs!

-       Salvation Army: Help prepare and serve meals to local residents in need!

-       Math Education Day with Family Math Program: Help the Family Math Program at this on-campus event in exposing youths to interactive, fun ways to learn mathematics!

We will need to find ways to combine insights and ideas from many fields of study and to use them creatively. Concepts and tools from systems science and design can help us do this.
