It is with the greatest of regret that I must inform the Ithaca College community of the death of one of our students. Senior Danielle Goren was killed in an automobile accident on Friday, October 20, while traveling to Washington, DC.

A speech-language pathology major, Danielle was involved in a wide range of campus activities. She served as a resident assistant in the College Circle Apartments, as an orientation leader, and as a member of the senior class cabinet. She was active in Hillel and was the president of the college’s chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.

Services for Danielle will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at Temple Beth El, 1305 Springhouse Rd., Allentown, Pennsylvania. Friends are also invited to gather at Muller Chapel on campus at 9 p.m. on Sunday to reflect on Danielle’s life and to offer one another support and comfort at this difficult time. The chaplains and members of the Counseling Center staff will also be available. An on-campus memorial service is also being planned for a future date.

I know that the entire college community joins with me in extending our deepest sympathies, along with our thoughts and prayers, to Danielle’s family, friends, and classmates for their tragic loss.

Danielle was a former student of mine in "Leisure and Society" and I often saw her in the hallways of Hill Center and Smiddy Hall. Regardless of when I saw her, she always had an inviting smile that caught my eye and a pleasant conversation always followed. Just recently I told her that I missed having her in my class, to which she responded, "I miss you, too!"

My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and classmates at this time.

I was lucky to have Danielle in 2 of the courses I teach at Ithaca College-Understanding Disability and Personal Health. Danielle was the kind of student that helped ME feel better with her comprehensive presence, good nature and kindness. For both courses, Danielle assisted in activities for individuals with disabilities and she did an outstanding job. I always trusted her. In fact, so much she was hired to work at the Ithaca Youth Bureau this past summer. She worked with children with disabilities at Cass Park Day Camp-wow, did I ever feel blessed as a supervisor to have her and other IC students working for me. What an incredible service Danielle and her fellow staff provided.
I am so sorry for everyone who is in so much pain over the loss of Danielle in our physical world. She was "way good stuff" and I know she would have continued to contribute
to helping others her entire life.
I will have her picture in my pocket at graduation. You are loved, Danielle.
