Help Flood Victims in Broome, Tioga, and Other Surrounding Counties!Contributed by Natasha Thompson on 09/12/11 Stop Wasting Ithaca's Food Today (SWIFT) will be tabling in the Campus Center lobby this week to collect non-perishable food, toiletries, pet food, gently used clothing, and monetary support for the victims of last week's flood. The organization, SWIFT (Stop Wasting Ithaca's Food Today) that packages and delivers food to local churches and shelters every week is going to be collecting non-perishable foods (and other items) that we will be bringing to the Southern Tier Food Bank in Elmira, NY, sometime in the middle of next week. The food bank is one main group coordinating the distribution of food and needed items to those affected by the most recent flooding in many areas around the state. Here is their website for more info: http://www.foodbankst.org/ We also will be collecting any monetary donations as well as pet food, gently used clothing, personal toiletry items (deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, etc.), cleaning products, bleach, toiletries, paper towels, etc. These items will be distributed to those in need throughout Binghamton and the Southern Tier by local volunteers in that area.
