Local Environmental History presentations at The History Center on April 25Contributed by Marian Brown on 04/17/12
The students featured on the program have been guided by Michael Smith, associate professor of History & Environmental Studies at Ithaca College, and History Center staff. Prof. Smith's course, History of American Environmental Thought, seeks to impart a sense of "ecological citizenship," and an understanding of "community in the broader sense--beyond the human connection." Students in this course work with the staff at the History Center to utilize primary source material in the Center's archives as well as conduct additional research to understand more about a significant environmental occurrence in our region's history. A question and answer period will follow student presentations. Learn more about this Environmental History experiential learning component in Dr. Smith's History of American Environmental Thought course.
