Ultimate Concerns and Daily Life: Religion in the NewsContributed by Nancy Menning on 11/14/14 Curious about the separation of church and state? How religion gets covered in news media? How to think carefully and critically about religion as it manifests in our public lives? Consider enrolling in Religion in the News RLST 37508-01 (3 credits) From the beheadings of journalists by ISIL to religious advocacy for immigration law reform to religious exemptions from federally-mandated health insurance coverage for contraception, religion is ubiquitous in our public discourse. In this course, we will develop the knowledge and skills we need to understand critically and participate responsibly in these matters of national and global citizenship. Our focus will be on coverage of religion in the news (nationally and internationally) as well as U.S. Supreme Court decisions on religious matters.
