Green Street, Ithaca, NY 14850 One show only, followed by discussion. Extraordinary black & white cinematography. Never shown before in Ithaca; only twice shown on the East Coast; less than ten times in the USA Muayad & Rami Alayan's 2015 black comedy about romance and desperation under the Israeli occupation. It follows the breathless career of a young, penniless Palestinian car thief who hopes that he can cash in a stolen Israeli VW and make his way out of the country, taking along his girlfriend and their daughter. To his dismay, he discovers a bound-and-gagged, kidnapped Israeli soldier folded into the car's trunk and things go downhill from there. Stunningly filmed in sharply focused black and white For movie trailer, see https://vimeo.com/112886716
The Olive Branch Film Series brings cinema by, from, and about Palestine to the Ithaca, New York, community. Featuring both narrative films and documentaries, the series aims to promote exploration and discussion of the complex human, political, historical and cultural realities of Palestinians. The OBFS began in Spring 2015 and continued in Fall 2015 with five films, ranging from classic to new release. Time for discussion follows the screenings, some with a featured speaker.
