Brief Outage
Sakai will be unavailable for about 5 minutes around 5:00 AM on Friday, September 9th in order to implement the new Attendance tool. In addition, several 3rd-party tools are now available to connect with Sakai.
NEW TOOLS:
Attendance (new Sakai core tool added through Site Info -> Edit Tools)
Features include:
- Printable sign-in and attendance sheets
- Take Attendance Now feature
- Enter comments in an individual student’s attendance record
- View specific sections and groups
- Setup attendance grading
- Choose whether to allow students to view their grade in Attendance
- Choose whether to send grades to the Gradebook
3rd-Party Tools Now Accessible Via Sakai:
Microsoft OneNote Class Notebook
Features include:
- A link to your OneNote Class Notebook on your Sakai left-hand navigation menu
- Ability to grant access to shared documents in a OneNote Notebook based on Sakai class roster membership
- Edit documents in real time or off-line
- Multiple people can edit the documents at the same time.
- Changes are merged automatically
- Document versioning
- Identified authorship
- Content tagging
- Record audio directly in the document
- Insert images and other media from your computer or the web
NowComment
Discuss and annotate on-line documents and media!
Features include:
- A link to your NowComment class documents on your Sakai left-hand navigation menu
- Ability to grant access to NowComment Class documents based on Sakai class roster membership
- Creates new student accounts automatically

How to Create the Sakai Connections Yourself:
If you're an instructor in a Sakai site you can create connections between Sakai and the above 3rd party tools. Here are the steps:
- Enter your Sakai course site
- Click on "Site Info"
- Click "Edit Tools"
- Scroll to the bottom of the Tools page and Click "Plugin Tools"
- Tick the box next to the tool you want to add
- Click "Continue"
- Click "Finish"
A link to the tool will appear at the bottom of your Sakai navigation menu (on the left). Now you're ready to make your connection!
- Click on the tool link from your Sakai navigation menu and follow the instructions provided by the third party tool.
