Kathleen Mulligan (Associate Professor, Theatre Arts), Lydia Kelly ('21), Audrey Lang ('20), and Kimmi Neuschulz ('20) presented at the Statera Foundation for Women in Arts 3rd Annual Conference in Milwaukee, WI on October 4th-7th, 2018.

Speaking about the On Common Ground project, a collaboration between U.S. and Pakistani theatre artists (Theatre Wallay, Islamabad) that explored the effects of violence on public space. Mulligan and her collaborators received a $347,000 grant from the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad for the project, which spanned two years. In the first stage of the project, the U.S. team of Mulligan, director David Studwell, and playwright Linda Alper worked with Theatre Wallay members in Islamabad to create an original theatre piece. The piece toured to Oregon in summer 2017 for performances at the Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland and The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. In October 2017, two members of the Theatre Wallay, Imran Iftikhar and Rabia Pasha, worked with thirteen IC students (including Neuschulz, Kelly, and Lang) for three weeks on original material from the U.S. point of view. 

Kelly, Neuschulz, and Lang attended a wide variety of sessions at the conference on such topics as "Creating A Feminist Community in the Rehearsal Room" ,"Fat Discrimination in the American Theatre", and "Breaking The Binary: Creating & Upholding Spaces for Trans and Non-Binary Theater Makers On Stage & Beyond".
