Death by Doorknob! Students in the Roy H. Park School of Communications took on the challenge of producing a film in which a character dies from a doorknob. This year’s Golden Doorknob Film Screening and Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium.

Students will compete for $2000 in prizes and possession of the infamous Golden Doorknob Award.

This year's event will be hosted by Joe Pera '10, a New York City stand-up comedian.

Ernesto Bassi, Cornell University, will present "“Captains, Sailors, and the Creation of a Trans-imperial Greater Caribbean during the Age of Revolution" in Textor 101 on October 8 at 6pm. The talk is sponsored by Latin American Studies as part of their Fall "Greater Caribbean Lecture and Events Series."

In this talk Ernesto will share with us portions of his book-in-progress Creating Spaces, Envisioning Futures: Region-Making and Geopolitical Imagination in the Transimperial Greater Caribbean during the Age of Revolutions, which examines the role of sailors in the creation of a geographic space he calls the transimperial Greater Caribbean and the way in which other, les mobile, subjects used this geographical framework to interpret the present they inhabited and to envision paths toward the future.

Preparation is underway to launch the College’s national search for the next dean of the School of Business. Gale Merseth and Kathryn Barry from Isaacson, Miller executive search firm will serve as the consultants and will be visiting campus soon to conduct the pre-search study. As this search gets under way, additional information will be made available to the campus

Round River Conservation Studies is a research and education organization based in Utah. They offer field-based study-abroad programs where students work with local people to study, protect and restore wild places. Study areas include conservation biology, natural history and environmental policy; and students are immersed in the cultures of indigenous peoples.
