Writing Department Associate Professor Cory Brown won one of three finalist awards in The Missouri Review's Jeffrey E. Smith Editor's Prize, for his personal essay "Compliance." The essay is scheduled to be published in the fall issue of South Loop Review.

 

 

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 8 to 18 year olds in the US spend nearly 8 hours a day engaged with media. Because of this reality, it is important that our classrooms address contemporary forms of communication if they are to be relevant and engaging platforms for teaching 21st century literacy. On Saturday March 14, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development for Project Look Sharp Chris Sperry will present two workshops on Media Literacy in the 21st Century, with one focusing on ELA and Social Studies, and the other on STEM.

One credit mini courses are offered as part of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF). Courses start right after spring break. The Leadership Scholars program recognizes students with a demonstrated record of academic and co-curricular achievements. Students enter the program during their first year at Ithaca College and take on new leadership challenges every semester until they graduate. Components of the program include service projects, professional development, and leadership in student organizations that is recorded in leadership portfolios that are presented to administrators and peers every semester.

On Friday May 7th, Enrique González Conty presented a paper titled “Redefining Identity in Contemporary Cuban Cinema" at the Mid-Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies Conference in New Brunswick, NJ. The conference was hosted by Rutgers University.

Theresa Radley, Vice President Education and Membership of the Ithaca College Toastmasters Club, won the Area 10 International Speech Contest on Saturday in Cortland with her speech, "Seeing My Strength."

Ithaca, NY – On November 11 2013, the entire teaching at the Elizabeth Anne Clune (EAC) Montessori School in Ithaca New York participated in a full day training that focused on the integration of media production and analysis into core curriculum. Chris Sperry facilitated the workshop as Director of Curriculum and Staff Development for Ithaca College’s media literacy initiative, Project Look Sharp (www.projectlooksharp.org).  Both Project Look Sharp and the Ithaca City School district are excited to be bringing their professional experience to help out the local Montessori schools.
