A robust discussion on Monday 22, 2013 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m, with Dr. Amii Omara-Otunnu, UNESCO Chair for the United States, on power, terror and the constant tension between realpolitik and justice.

Dr. Otunnu holds the first and only Chair in Human Rights in the USA and coordinates the
UNESCO Chairs in Human Rights in the regions of Israel, Western Europe and North America. He is also the founder and Executive Director of the Institute of Comparative Human Rights at the University of Connecticut.

On Friday, April 19th at 3:00pm in Emerson Suites A/B in the Campus Center at Ithaca College, author and independent journalist Mark Hertsgaard will respond to questions from audience members in an informal, free-wheeling discussion on the human, environmental, political and economic impacts of climate change. Mark’s latest book is “Hot: Living Through the Next Fifty Years on Earth.”  Mark’s appearance will offer audience members the opportunity to ask him relevant questions about climate change, U.S. and global environmental policy, effective communications, writing, you name it.

Why is water considered 'Blue Gold'? Why is water important in many religious rituals? We will use perspectives from the arts, humanities and sciences, with a focus on the global politics of water and sustainability and its media representations. Internet readings, videos, guest lecturers and discussions link students with national and international experts. You can do this course any time of the day online from anywhere with a high-speed internet connection.

Focus Asia Month continues with a one-day intercollegiate conference this Sunday, April 21st, held by IC Asian American Alliance and Cornell's Asian & Asian American Center. The conference kicks off in Business 111 with workshops at 11am and 1pm featuring students from UCLA and Duke speaking on dealing with hate crimes in their campuses. The conference will continue with even more workshops at Cornell!
