The survey was emailed to all students a month ago, and was posted on Intercom and other online social media platforms. We received over 200 responses, and of course the survey is far from scientific, but SGA uses the results of the survey to help guide initiatives for the year to come. Think of it more like a suggestion box and less like a political poll. It’s important to note that because of the nature of the survey, only the students with the loudest opinions would be inclined to respond, but SGA’s function is to investigate and provide recommendations for improvement on all areas of student concern. The College received 15,641 applications for the fall semester, a 13 percent increase over last year’s 13,813. Of particular note, international applications increased 18 percent and ALANA applications grew 24 percent. As part of a service-learning program spearheaded by Annette Levine (Associate Professor, Spanish, MLL), IC students such as Kristin Leffler, who is featured in the Ithaca Journal article, work with children to help them acquire life-long language skills. As you begin to plan for Commencement Week 2013, please keep in mind the following on-campus housing guidelines. All campus residents except for graduating seniors, Resident Assistants, and Circle Apartment residents are required to vacate their rooms no later than 3:00 p.m. on May 11, 2013 unless they receive written approval from the Office of Residential Life to remain. For students with a final exam scheduled, or final papers/projects due on Monday, May 13, 2013, the deadline to vacate their rooms will be extended until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. (187 words) Jennifer Tennant, Economics Department, Receives AwardContributed by Tina Bennett on 03/19/13 Jennifer Tennant's article, "Isolating the Effect of Major Depression on Obesity: Role of Selection Bias" with Dhaval Dave and Gregory Colman, has received the "Excellence in Mental Health Policy and Economics Award" for 2011-2012. The Journal of Mental Health Policy and Economics gives out two awards, the Adam Smith Award and the Excellence Award. The Adam Smith Award is given to the best paper published in the journal in two years; the Excellence Award is given to the two exceptional/top papers (after the Adam Smith award) published in the journal in two years. Together these three papers are the best three papers published in all issues of the journal between 2011-2012. The papers are chosen by the editoral board and voted upon by them. The award will be given out at the biennial conference at the end of March in Venice, Italy.
