(82 words) Physical Therapy Faculty and Alumni honored at National ConferenceContributed by Helene Larin on 03/09/12 Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy contributed 12 presentations and coordinated educational programs in neurology, neurophysiology, and aquatics, at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting held in Chicago, IL. Dr. Andrew Robinson was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for 2012 from the Section on Clinical Electrophysiology and Wound Management of APTA. Dr. Michael Pagliarulo was the recipient of the University of Southern California 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award. In conjunction with Ithaca College, the Unity Health System Residency in Neurologic Physical Therapy was recognized as a 2011 new Credentialed Residency Program, and the Cayuga Medical Center, Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency, as a 2011 Credentialed Residency Program. Nineteen physical therapy alumni were recognized as new Board Certified Specialists in Cardiovascular & Pulmonary, Geriatric, Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Gerontology Institute Caregiver Support Group to Explore Office for the Aging Resources on Friday, March 16Contributed by Paula Davis on 03/09/12 The Caregiver Support Group will meet Friday, March 16, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Gerontology Resource Room (413 CHS). Ithaca College staff and faculty members who provide care to ill or frail individuals are welcome to join this informal support group to share the issues and concerns of caregiving. In addition to discussing individual challenges, attendees this month will also get to explore in depth the resources available through the Tompkins County Office for the Aging. Beverages and a sweet treat will be available; please feel free to bring your lunch. This group is co-sponsored by the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute and Office of Human Resources. (135 words) The Society of Professional Journalists has named The Ithacan as a finalist for the 2012 Mark of Excellence Awards for Best All-Around Non-Daily College Newspaper in the Northeast Region and Best Affiliated Newspaper Website in the Northeast Region. The paper is consistently ranked among the top three college newspapers in the Northeast by SPJ. In addition, senior Aaron Edwards’ story, “No Day But Today,” which appeared in the Oct. 27, 2011, issue of The Ithacan, and junior Taylor Long’s story, “Rhythmic Roots,” which ran Nov. 3, 2011, have been named as finalists in the Feature Writing category. The winners will be announced at the SPJ Region 1 Spring Conference in Stony Brook, New York, on March 24. Regional winners go on to compete against the winners in the other 11 SPJ regions to compete at the national level in their respective categories.
