Chamber Music: An Essential History (Ann Arbor, Michigan: University of Michigan Press, 2012), written by Mark A. Radice, Professor in the School of Music, is an overview of music for intimate ensembles from Mediaeval times to the present. This book discusses both Western European classics and many less known but fascinating works—some of them as recent as 2009 are examined. Much of the information is from the composers themselves.

The cover is from a beautiful piece of artwork is by Dorothy Hoyt, wife of former Ithaca College President Howard Dillingham. The wax painting has been hanging in the School of Music faculty lounge for many years.

Professor of Music Kim Dunnick presented a masterclass on January 19 at Grand Valley State University in Michigan.  About 40 students attended from GVSU and area colleges and universities. 

During the class, Dunnick worked with several trumpet soloists and a trumpet ensemble, all of whom are preparing for either graduate auditions or competition in the National Trumpet Competition in Washington D.C.

ITS is pleased to announce some  upcoming hands on workshops on using Turnitin, the online plagiarism detection service.

The Faculty Development Committee is now accepting nominations for the Faculty Excellence Awards for academic year 2011-2012. Once again, the Faculty Development Committee is fortunate to offer five awards, each for $1,500. In order to be eligible for these awards, a candidate must be a full-time faculty member who has completed at least one year of employment at Ithaca College and who will be full-time (TE or NTEN) during the 2012-2013 academic year.
