Summer Grants for Faculty Research are intended to support post-terminal degree scholarly endeavors for full-time continuing Ithaca College faculty and faculty regularly employed on at least a half-time basis. Awards provide approximately $3,000 in compensation for eight weeks of full-time research. Proposals are due in the Office of the Associate Provost by February 15. Guidelines and application form may be found at https://www.ithaca.edu/provost/docs/internalgrants/SUMMER/.

Director of the Core Curriculum

I am very pleased to announce that Danette Johnson, Professor in Communication Studies, has accepted the position of Director of the Core Curriculum. Dr. Johnson brings to this position extensive experience in general education administration (at a previous institution), a deep understanding of best practice in learning assessment, and knowledge of Ithaca College administrative procedures surrounding curriculum approval and associated activities. Most important of all she brings enthusiasm and commitment to the liberal arts and to the success of a new Integrative Core Curriculum (ICC) here at Ithaca College.

The Faculty Development Committee is now accepting nominations for the Faculty Excellence Awards for academic year 2011-2012. The guidelines for completing and submitting a nomination can be downloaded from the CFE website <https://www.ithaca.edu/cfe/. Once again, the Faculty Development Committee is fortunate to offer five awards, each for $1,500. In order to be eligible for these awards, a candidate must be a full-time faculty member who has completed at least one year of employment at Ithaca College and who will be full-time (TE or NTEN) during the 2012-2013 academic year.

The Diversity Awareness Committee of Ithaca College is offering students the opportunity to participate in dialogues on race through Talking Circles.  Facilitated by the Multicultural Resource Center, students will be able to come together on campus in a safe environment to share feelings, thoughts and experiences on the issues of race and racism.

The advancement communications team in the Division of Institutional Advancement won a gold medal in the 2012 District II CASE Accolades Awards in the category of fund-raising fliers/pamphlets for the print brochure it produced earlier this year for the Ithaca College Rowing Center campaign.

The team also received an honorable mention for the Rowing Center campaign website (www.ithaca.edu/rowingcenter).

Congratulations to Helene Maddux, advancement communications manager; JoAnn LaPadula, advancement communications coordinator; and Wendy Hankle, advancement communications writer-editor, for their creative and thoughtful work on this campaign, which finished earlier this year having surpassed its $1 million goal.

Drop-in Hours During Winter Break

There will be no drop-in hours at Career Services from January 3 through January 20th, 2012.  Students and alumni may stop by our office at 101 Muller Center or call (607) 274-3365 to make an appointment with a career counselor.

Redesign of the Ready campaign microsite
The Ready campaign microsite was recently updated to showcase new stories and create a more engaging, user-friendly experience for visitors. The redesigned microsite features a comprehensive search tool and an animated, category-based filtering system that allows users to see only stories related to the categories they choose, such as health sciences or campus life. Additional photos and videos will be added to the microsite over the coming weeks.ithaca.edu/ready/elliep/

The Office of the President, along with the Department of Human Resources, and the Working Parents Affinity Group are collaborating on the possibility of providing a new prepared meals-to-go service on or near campus.

Drs. Kaye and Sforzo partnered with Plus One Health Management in NYC to complete a study of wellness education and programming on health outcomes and the resulting manuscript has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (JOEM).  The article is expected to be in print by mid-summer and may be published electronically by JOEM before then.  If you have any questions, or desire more information about their work, please feel free to contact the authors via their College emails.

Submission of Timecards

Student Employees--please make sure that you submit your timecard for the pay period December 19-Janaury 1 before you leave on break.  The timecard for this pay period must be APPROVED by all of your supervisors no later than noon on Tuesday, January 3 for payment on Friday, January 6.
