The editors of the Norton anthologies will reprint work published by Writing Department faculty Catherine Taylor’s independent press (Essay Press) in an upcoming anthology. The selection will bring work from Carla Harryman’s Essay Press book, Adorno’s Noise, to thousands of additional readers.

Dr. Shay speaks at IC as part of the First-Year Reading Initiative program this Wednesday.

Mark your calendar for the Annual Employee Benefits and Work/Life Fair being held on Wednesday, November 2nd from 10am to 3pm in Emerson Suites. Step aboard the SS ICHR and cruise through your IC Benefits. Your IC faculty/staff ID will be your ticket aboard, so don't forget it!

This year the Office of Human Resources is partnering with the IC Caring & Sharing Committee. Be a life saver and bring a non-perishable food item to the Fair for Caring & Sharing's annual Thanksgiving holiday food drive and receive a chance to win a gift card to Wegman's.

The online re-enrollment process will run from November 7th through the 18th. Drop-in sessions will be held during this time. Benefits Staff and our Aetna Representative will be available to answer questions or assist employees with the online re-enrollment process. In keeping with our annual tradition, all faculty and staff are invited to join the hundreds of alumni and other friends returning to campus for Fall Splash, IC's alumni weekend, to be held October 14–16. And this year's celebration includes something extra special: the dedication of the new Athletics and Events Center.

Faculty and staff are entitled to a free ticket to the Fall Splash picnic, which will take place on Saturday, October 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Campus Center quad. Additional tickets for spouses/partners may be purchased for $25 per person; children 12 and under are free.

If you would like to attend the A&E Center dedication on October 15, you can buy tickets at a discounted rate of $50 per person. The event will begin with an outdoor dedication at 6:30 p.m., followed by a festive reception inside the facility, a candlelit dinner, and a concert by Orleans, a well-known pop/rock band fronted by Larry Hoppen '71. Our host and emcee for the evening will be Broadway performer Eric Jordan Young '93.

This Thursday at 8pm in Muller Chapel we will have our first Visioning Team Meeting to review the first month's events and dream & plan for the rest of the semester...please come and share your ideas and suggestions to help improve the Catholic Community experience!

We have an informal Fireside Mass at 6pm followed by a delicious homemade Soup Supper at 7pm...so come and enjoy good company, prayer and food before the meeting.

Tomorrow, September 21st is the International Day of Peace.  To celebrate this day, and the conclusion of the events during Pursuing Peace Together, the Catholic Community and our friends from the Muller Chapel community invite you to intentionally think and work towards peace tomorrow by fasting in solidarity with those afflicted by war, reflecting on how we can personally live more peacefully, and praying to God as you understand God for healing, wholeness, and hope in our war torn world.  Be a ripple of peace in this community that will extend beyond our confines to the whole world.

Our consultant for the HSHP Dean search, Julie Tea, visited campus last week and met with the search committee and many other campus and community constituencies to conduct the pre-search study.  The search committee expects to complete the search prospectus within the next three weeks.

Congratulations to Associate Professor Fred Wilcox in the Department of Writing on the publication of Scorched Earth: Legacies of Chemical Warfare in Vietnam, recently released by Seven Stories Press. Scorched Earth is the first book to chronicle the effects of chemical warfare on the Vietnamese people and their environment, where, even today, more than 3 million people—including 500,000 children—are sick and dying from birth defects, cancer, and other illnesses that can be directly traced to Agent Orange/dioxin exposure.
