 The Ithacan has been named a Newspaper Pacemaker finalist for 2011 by the Associated Collegiate Press. The winners of the award — widely regarded as the “Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism” — will be announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla., on October 29. 

The Ithacan won the Newspaper Pacemaker in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008, and was a finalist in 2009 and 2010. The Ithacan Online won the Online Pacemaker in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010, and was a finalist in 2009.

The Associated Collegiate Press is the oldest and largest national membership organization for college journalists in the country. This year's Newspaper Pacemaker competition was judged by professional journalists in the Washington, D.C., area.

The Study Abroad Ice Cream Social will be held this Monday, September 19, from 6:00-7:00 in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center.  This event is held each fall specifically for first-year students.  You will have the chance to hear from and ask questions of lots of IC students who have studied abroad in locations all across the globe, all while eating make-your-own sundaes! This is a great opportunity to learn more about your options for study abroad and to hear all about study abroad directly from students who have lived the experience.

Independent filmmaker and author Randy Olson will be on campus for an informal "meet and greet" session on Monday, September 19th from 10 - 10:50AM in the Klingenstein Lounge in the Campus Center. Olson, author of "Don't Be Such a Scientist!", will meet with students from both a Non-Fiction Production class and an Environmental Studies course, but others from the campus community are welcome to attend. Olson will show clips from some of his films. Olson will also be interviewed by WICB at 11am.

The Society for Neuroscience is a professional society with over 40,000 members worldwide.  The Committee on Neuroscience Departments and Programs (CNDP) works to enhance individual and institutional members through programs and initiatives that offer opportunities for professional development, networking, and information sharing to educators and learners in higher education.   Dr. Hardwick has been appointed to a three-year term on this committee, with the goal of representing undergraduate neuroscience programs within the society.

The Arabic Language and Culture Club will be having its first meeting of the year this Thursday, September 15th, at 8pm.  The meeting will be held in the Language Lab on the 3rd floor of the Library.  

Students from all levels and knowledge of Arabic are encouraged to come and share their love of the language! 

Living with Grief is about living with loss.  If you are a student coping with the loss of a loved one, this group is for you.  Whether your loss happened recently, or a while ago, you are welcome to attend.

The first of support group of the semester meets Wednesday, September 14th.
