Given the College's delayed opening on Thursday, September 8, 2011, due to inclement weather conditions, we are providing the following clarification on compensation practices and recording of hours worked.

All employees designated as “essential personnel” regularly scheduled to work the day shift, and who reported to work at their normal time, will be compensated at their regular rate and will receive an additional one and one-half times their regular rate for all hours worked from their regular start time through 12:00pm.  The regular scheduled hours will be recorded as “Hours Worked” and the actual hours worked will be recorded as “Overtime @ 1 ½”.  This will result in the individual receiving double time and ½ for the hours actually worked up until the College officially opened.  (“Essential personnel” are designated individuals working in the College health center, office of public safety, and facilities.)

In late May the Phillips Hall Post Office was upgraded by the United States Postal Service.

Some of the benefits of the new system include the acceptance of credit cards for all transactions, capability to provide acceptance scans for all accountable mail, receipts automatically generated for transactions, and touch screen information on international shipments.

It is important to note that we will no longer be able to sell Postal money orders with this new system. As a result, we are in the process of establishing a new vendor for money orders and will communicate, via Intercom, when this service becomes available.

We no longer will accept personal cash, check or credit card transactions at the Phillips Hall Post Office for outgoing FedEx or UPS shipments. Doing so would be a violation of our contract with the USPS. These transactions including estimates must be done at the Mail Center located in the General Services building.  This change became effective in late May.

We will continue to accept departmental shipments and prepaid outgoing FedEx and UPS shipments at the dutch door customer service window at the Phillips Hall Post Office.

This change only affects cash and credit card transactions.
Contact the Mail Center at 4-3371 with questions or for an estimate. We apologize for the inconvenience this change may cause.
