Christopher House’s essay “A Voice Crying in the Wilderness: A Wounded Healer, The HIV/ AIDS Rhetoric of Rev. James L. Cherry,” has been designated a “Top Student Debut Paper in Rhetorical Studies” by the National Communication Association’s Religious Communication Association. He will present the paper in New Orleans in November.

The Student Computer Repair Center, located in Friends 110, provides convenient on-campus computer advice, support, and service to students, faculty and staff.

Stop by the SCRC between 12 pm - 5 pm this week and get your personal computer checked out before the start of the semester! Be sure to bring your college ID.

The office of Student Employment has made some changes in the way new student employees are hired. One of the major changes is that students will no longer "drop in" to do their I-9 and payroll paperwork.  This change will only impact students who have not worked on campus before.

The Offices of Human Resources will be closed on Tuesday, August 16 for an all-staff HR retreat. The staff will be back in the office on Wednesday, August 17 and will be able to answer and service any inquiries then.

Ithaca College is hosting one of the Apple Summer Seminars and Training sessions on campus from 10-11:00 am on August 18 in 160 Job Hall. Apple engineer, George Cook, will give an overview of iTunes U and how the iTunes U Public Site Manager works. He will follow up with a Q&A session for anyone using or supporting iTunes U on campus.

We are currently holding all packages that arrive if you are in our system as living on campus for the Fall 2011 semester or if you are currently a “hold at Phillips Hall” summer student. You will receive an email notifying you that a package has arrived and where to pick it up. It is important that you read the body of the email. During this time in the semester we keep small and large packages at the Mail Center. Last year during the first 6 weeks of the semester we received 18,350 packages for students. 

Circles residents: Please notify your correspondents and remember to use the new Circles building numbers.  We will resume sorting mail into the Community Center mail boxes on Wednesday 8/17/2011.

Susan Waterbury, Associate Professor of Violin and Chamber Music, spent the
first week of August teaching and performing as a member of the faculty of the
David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar in Hartford, CT.  David Einfeldt was a 1962 graduate of Ithaca College. 

Waterbury taught violin lessons to 12 high school students in the seminar and played chamber music with the other faculty members.

Dr. Donathan Brown has had two papers accepted for presentation at fall conferences:  

"“For Our Borders, For Our Culture, For Our Future: Tom Tancredo for America" will be presented at the National Communication Association meeting in New Orleans.

“Somos Vecinos o Enemigos: Dislocating American National Identity” will be presented at the biennial conference of the Canadian Initiative in Law, Culture, and Humanities hosted by the Department of Law at Carelton University.

Early Friday morning, 8/4/11, ITS noticed unusual traffic on our computing network. We were able to quickly determine that a trojan (type of computer virus) was affecting some computers on the network. ITS immediately asked Windows computer users not to log onto their computers to try and stop the spread of this infection. Those of you on campus, are aware of what followed. Donations Needed!

The Caring and Sharing Committee is *accepting donations of new or very gently used backpacks, lunchboxes, and other school supplies for Ithaca College employees needing assistance. Donations will be accepted through August 24th at the following locations:

  • Bookstore
  • Peggy R. Williams Center, ground floor
  • Office of Public Safety, foyer
  • Facilities Main Office

*Donation suggestions include 3-ring binders (1.5" & 2"); lose leaf paper (wide ruled); crayons (24 count); markers; blue and black pens, pencils and colored pencils; glue sticks; safety scissors; tissues; disinfectant wipes.

Monetary donations may be mailed to Crystal Young, Center for Public Safety.  Checks should be made out to Ithaca College.

In response to requests by faculty for a statement regarding services for students with disabilities, here is a concise insert for inclusion in course syllabi.

"In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, reasonable accommodation will be provided to students with documented disabilities on a case-by-case basis. Students must register with Student Disability Services and provide appropriate documentation to Ithaca College before any academic adjustment will be provided."

 

 

 The Office of Student Financial Services will close at 12pm on Friday, August 12, 2011 so that the staff may attend a Division of Enrollment and Communication event.
