Three contributors to the book “Keep Your Wives Away From Them: Orthodox Women, Unorthodox Desires” will give a free public reading at Ithaca College on Thursday, Oct. 28. The program will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall, and it is free and open to the public.

The 2010 Family Weekend will be held October 29-31. A full listing of events for the weekend is available online: www.ithaca.edu/familyweekend.

Students whose parents are attending can pick up their registration materials in the north foyer of Phillips Hall beginning at 11:00 on Friday.  Please bring your ID.

Students whose parents are unable to attend are welcome to attend any non-ticketed events. Students who would like to attend ticketed events can stop by the registration area in the north foyer of Phillips Hall beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday to check on ticket availability.   

Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend as many of the non-ticketed events as you would like. Bring your family as well. (Ticketed events have limited seating reserved for students' families, although seats may be available at show time.)

Vivian Bruce Conger, History Department, presented a paper entitled
"Deborah Read Franklin and Sally Franklin Bache: An Intergenerational
Exploration into the Gendered Nature of Politics, Consumer Culture, and
the Household," at the Pennsylvania Historical Association annual
meeting held at Susquehanna University October 14-16, 2010.

 

Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) History Month is almost over. The final videos highlighting different historical figures will air on the LGBT Center website in the coming days. “Meditations on a Bullet”

Dr. Noam Ostrander, Assistant Professor in the MSW Program in Social Work at DePaul University, will present his research on constructions of identity, masculinity, race, sexuality, and self among former gang members, primarily African American and Latino, on Chicago’s West Side, who live with violently acquired spinal cord injuries. Dr. Ostrander’s scholarship pulls together complicated issues of intersections of identity, the roles of race and masculinity in shaping or obstructing disability identity, and the powerful life stories of these men. Dr. Ostrander has co-edited a collection of essays on disability and performance, as well as publishing in major journals in the social sciences.

Christianne Enos '11, an integrated marketing communications major, was selected as the 2010 Most Outstanding AAF Stickell Intern. Previously selected as the most outstanding member of Ithaca College's student chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), Christianne was chosen for this honor from the top 15 AAF students in the U.S. who also received the 2010 AAF Stickell 2010 Internship.

In addition, Christianne was invited to join the Stickell Advisory Board for a one-year term as a student representative, and will be attending the AAF National Convention in San Diego to participate in the annual board meeting.

“It is an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization. The Stickell Internship Program was a wonderful experience this summer," said Christianne.

October is Disability Awareness Month and we have put together some exciting programming to celebrate this part of our human diversity. Disability Awareness Month is sponsored by the Diversity Awareness Committee. We invite you to attend these events!
