The eighth annual "Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen" film series will begin on Wednesday, August 25, with a showing of Gay Pioneers. Gay Pioneers is the story of the first organized annual gay civil rights demonstrations held in Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC from 1965-1969.  The screening will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 103.

Wellness Clinic Re-opens

The Wellness Clinic will reopen for the semester at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25. If you would like to become a member, go to our website (ithaca.edu/wellness) and follow the "Join The Clinic" link. Fill out the health history form, which will automatically be e-mailed to us. We will get back in touch with you.

Group Exercise classes will begin on Monday, August 31. All classes (except Pilates) are included free with your membership. If you would like to ONLY participate in group exercise classes, we offer that type of membership as well. This semester we will be offering some new and exciting classes such as zumba.

We now offer payroll deduction for payment of dues. If you would like this option, drop by the Clinic or give us a call for more details (274-1301).

 

Pathways is a mental health crisis prevention and intervention program offered by the I.C. Counseling and Psychological Services.

The Ithaca College Student Handbook is now on-line and may be accessed at https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/handbook.  There is a lot of valuable information in the handbook, including the student conduct code, policies, and residential life information, with which you should become familiar.

The College is also required by law to provide information related to all federal and New York State laws that are critical for you to know, including the College’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

   One of the School of Music's minor ensembles, Brass Choir, is still seeking participants. This ensemble meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00-10:50am in IRR in the Whalen Center for Music. It is a group of brass and percussion instrumentalists who are dedicated to performing challenging repetoire with the utmost musical integrity. The ensemble is typically composed of music majors and minors with the occasional outstanding non-major. Performances this semester include the Veteran's Day Celebration on campus, a run-out performance to the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, and an end-of-semester performance in Ford Hall. Please contact Prof. Drew Benware (abenware@ithaca.edu) if interested. Majors and minors should feel free to self-register via Homer. Please note that the ensemble will not rehearse on the first Thursday of classes but will begin on Tuesday, August 31.

Telling a friend you are concerned about their mental health can be scary.  You might not know what to say or how to say it.  You might also be afraid your friend will become angry, that your friend might dismiss what you have to say, or that your friend might not want your help.  If your lack of confidence or fear keeps you from talking to your friend, your anxiety might increase and your friend might suffer more than is necessary. And let’s face it, sometimes we worry that our friend might be thinking about suicide…but fear can keep us from asking.  That does not have to be the case.

This is a reminder that the Student Computer Repair Center (SCRC) is now offering personal computer repair service for faculty and staff with a valid Ithaca College ID. The SCRC, located in Friends 110, is staffed with trained and certified technicians who can provide affordable and convenient on-campus computer advice and support. The SCRC opens for the fall semester on Tuesday, August 24th.

An annual report of suicide prevention related activities has been compiled for a number of years.  Last year the report took the form of a newsletter and was well received.  This year, the newsletter format was repeated and provides a nice summary of the past academic year's suicide prevention activities.  Check it out and learn how we're stompin' out the stigma at IC that keeps those in need from seeking mental health services.

The Ithaca College Campus Choral Ensemble is a vocal ensemble open to all students at Ithaca College. There are no auditions for this SATB ensemble. The Ithaca College Campus Choral Ensemble is intended primarily for the non-music major who would like to sing in a large vocal ensemble. The course may be taken for 0, .5, or 1 credit. One concert is scheduled each semester.
