Maki has received a two-year, $35,000 Cottrell College Science Award for her project entitled, “Regulation of gene expression by coupling pre-mRNA splicing with RNA decay”.  Ithaca College has provided over $10,000 in matching funds.

Infants between 6 and 12 months are needed to assist us in developing a mobile robot system using a joy stick. In a session of 30 to 60 minutes, at our Ithaca campus site, the infant will be securely seated and we will try to interest the infant to reach for toys and move the robot. Parents will be present at all time and will receive $15 per session for their assistance in this project. We hope eventually to use this device with very young children who have difficulty to move independently.

Christopher LaRosa, an Ithaca College student in the School of Music, was awarded an IES Abroad Fine Arts Merit-Based Scholarship in the amount of $3000 by the Institute for the International Education of Students. LaRosa will attend the IES Abroad fall 2010 Vienna program. This term IES received over 550 applications competing in 20 different scholarship categories. Only 12% of applicants received an award.

Matt Mogekwu, associate professor and chair in the Department of Journalism, will present a paper titled, "Conflict Reporting and Peace Journalism: In Search of a New Model," at the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) conference this week in Sydney, Australia.

He will also be attending and presenting a paper, "Non-Linear Relationship Between Media-Development-Social Change and Citizenship: Examining the Constraints in Developing Countries," at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference in Braga, Portugal July 18-23, 2010.
