Notice to student employees

Due to the upcoming Holiday break, all timecards for the weeks of December 7-13 and December 14-20 must be submitted and approved by 10 a.m. on Friday, December 18. Any timecards not submitted and approved by this time will be paid in the next payroll in January, 2010. Due to time limitations there will be no exceptions to this deadline.

Journey Into Christmas

Four Ithaca College students have won prestigious Gilman Scholarships for international study. The recipients are: Amanda Wright (Spanish) for study in Argentina; Rebekah Shyloski (Spanish and Art History) for study in Argentina; Susannah Faulkner (Politics) for study in Ireland; and Joni Sweet (Journalism) for study in India.

Excited about the well deserved free time coming your way over the holiday break?  This block of time is an excellent (and one of the last) time(s) to apply to join the 2010 Teach For America corps!  The deadline to do so is January 8, 2010.

Three faculty members from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology gave presentations at the annual convention of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association that was held in November in New Orleans.

            Student and faculty from the School of Music have joined with area musicians to create a CD for Hospicare and Palliative Services for Tompkins County. Entitled “Beauty Crowds Me,” after a poem by Emily Dickinson, the CD offers the therapeutic power of music to Hospicare patients and their families. “Beauty Crowds Me” is available for purchase online and at several local venues. All proceeds will benefit Hospicare.

 A Supervised Exercise Program for Fitness Enhancement

What: Fitness Program for Children of IC employees ages 10-16

Where: Ithaca College Wellness Clinic, CHS

When: February 2 – April 29 (12 wks with 1 wk break in March)

      Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 5pm

Who: Children interested in becoming more active and improving their fitness level or athletes interested in performance enhancement.

(All will participate in separate, goal specific training sessions in a positive and motivating environment)

Why: Because our children should be HEALTHY & FIT 

How: Email wellness@ithaca.edu to reserve your child’s spot at a low cost.

Enrollment is limited to 20 participants and applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis. This will allow us to maintain a 5:1 child to instructor ratio.   

 

The Ithaca College Caregiver Support Group will meet Friday, December 18, Noon - 1:00 p.m. in the Gerontology Institute Resource Room (413 CHS).

The eInstruction/Interwrite Personal Response System (PRS) clickers allow instructors to engage students with live, in-class polling and track their responses. During Fall 2009, 1152 clickers were ordered for 17 courses! If you are planning to use clickers for your Spring 2010 courses, please order the devices through the bookstore soon to ensure they are available for the beginning of classes and to increase the number that the bookstore will buy back at the end of this semester.

ITS will be updating Blackboard on Monday, January 4, 2010 from noon until 5:00 PM. Blackboard will be unavailable during that time. This upgrade will have minimal impact on users -- the look and feel will stay the same!

Cole Louison '00 will give a talk, entitled "Writers in the Recession," tomorrow, December 11 from 1-2 pm in Park 220. Louison graduated with a degree in Journalism from the Park School of Communications and is currently a writer for GQ magazine and contributes to Fader, McSweeney's, the New York Times, Buzzsaw,  and others.
