Internationally acclaimed modern artist Spencer Finch will explore how science and art are intertwined and can inform each other in a free public lecture at Ithaca College on Thursday, April 2. His talk, “Beauty and the Scientific Method,” is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Textor 102.

An installation of Finch’s works that bring together principles of science and art, created in collaboration with IC students, will also be on display throughout the day in the Center for Natural Sciences.

The inaugural winners of the Izzy Award for special achievement in independent media will be honored in a ceremony on Tuesday, March 31, at the State Theatre in downtown Ithaca. Democracy Now! host/executive producer Amy Goodman and www.ithaca.edu/indy/izzyblogger Glenn Greenwald will each speak at the event, which is being held at 7:00 p.m. The award ceremony is free and open to the public, though tickets are required.

Free tickets may be picked up at the Ithaca College Campus Center or the State Theatre box office. Located at 105 W. State Street, the State Theatre box office is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and before performances from two hours prior to showtime until a half hour past curtain. The IC ticket office, located in the recreation center on the first floor of Campus Center, is open Monday through Friday, 12:10 to 6:00 p.m.

In addition to speaking at the ceremony, Goodman and Greenwald will sign copies of their books.

The TREES Institute (Teaching and Research in Environmental Ethics and Sustainability) is sponsoring a juried exhibition of student work centering on the theme of sustainability. Submitted work may be critical in nature (observing situations and phenomena that negatively affect the environment) or aspirational (focusing on subjects that suggest remedy and redemption). All approaches from artistic to documentary are welcome.

Accepted entries will be framed and displayed in several high visibility areas in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Open to all Ithaca College students.
