Two technological stars will converge over Ithaca College beginning the week of November 20. The relative positions of these two celestial bodies could cause some difficulty for faculty, staff, and students, especially those innocent souls who haven’t consulted Intercom for their horoscope.

First, online access to Benefits Re-Enrollment 2007 continues until Friday, December 1. All benefit-eligible employees need to take action by December 1. Second, ITS will implement a system of stronger passwords for Parnassus and HomerAdmin on Monday, November 20.

In response to requests from students for more privacy control, Information Technology Services and Student Affairs and Campus Life have teamed up to make some changes to how the online directory works.

ITS is currently planning for software upgrades in ITS-managed computer labs and eClassrooms for the spring semester. If you need software installed or upgraded, please contact Beth Rugg erugg@ithaca.edu, by Friday December 15, 2006 with details and installer CDs.

ITS wants to remind all IC community members of several ways to keep informed about unexpected computer system or network problems, as well as scheduled service interruptions.

Student members of the Ithaca College Chemistry Club performed chemistry demonstrations as part of the “Spooky Science” program for kids held at the Sciencenter in downtown Ithaca on the evening of October 27. Demonstrations included “ghost in a bottle,” “exploding ethanol,” glow-in-the-dark solutions, foaming pumpkins, “ghost photo paper”, balloon shrinking with liquid nitrogen, and a “magic” potion that changes color. The two chemistry shows reached a combined audience of over 300 and was received with great enthusiasm. Ithaca College participants included Dan Cordaro, Alyssa de Villiers, Shawn Eady, Alicia Harper, Lauren Houdek, Erika Hughes, Pasquale Iancono, Keris KrennHrubec, Cole Lechleiter, Joseph Livingston, Melissa Martin, Colleen O’Loughlin, Michael Salvaggio, Josh Thomas, Nikki Wedgwood, and chemistry faculty member Scott Ulrich.

In celebration of International Education Week, the IC International Club and Dining Services are teaming up for the annual International Dinner and One World Concert.
