Dear Ithaca College Community:

A few weeks ago President Collado and I shared details of the college’s $235.5 million operating budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year—a thoughtful spending plan that stays true to our institution’s student-centered strategy and principals.  I’d like to once again commend Janet Williams, our interim vice president for finance and administration; the staff, faculty, and students on the Institutional Effectiveness and Budget Committee; and all of the staff and faculty members who worked so hard on their respective portions of the college’s budget.

In 25 years you’ve helped us divert 12.5 million pounds of food scraps from the landfill – now that’s a reason to celebrate! Join us as we commemorate a quarter century of composting at Ithaca College. We’ll have live music from Ithaca’s premiere composting band, Rot and Roll; tabling and support by EcoReps; IC Environmentalists; IC’s Conservation Psychology class, and Tompkins County Recycling and Materials Management. There will also be delicious “compost-themed” birthday cakes to dig into! Along with some trendy and reusable giveaways. Test your waste-reduction abilities as we "Weigh the Waste" in the dining hall. Be part of the clean plate club, as we collect food scraps and weigh them to identify how much food waste we’re producing (per person) at dinnertime. Music. Food. Environmentalism. Cake. Prizes. Weigh the Waste. Terraces Dining Hall, 5-8pm this Wednesday, April 18: Reducing food waste on campus is a team effort, so join the conversation and learn more as we recognize 25 years of composting on campus!

Dining Services' Retail Locations and Mac's General Store are taking donations at registers to benefit The BackPack Program for The Food Bank of the Southern Tier until Friday, April 20th.

Any amount is accepted, but did you know that a small $3.00 donation will fill a BackPack with food for a child in need? The BackPack Program bridges the gap over the weekend to ensure that a child is guaranteed 3 meals per day while not in school. Donate today at any retail dining register and feed a child in need.

Help us beat our goal of $5,000 - That's 1,666 BackPacks for children in Tompkins County!
