TVR320: Topics in Media Technology: The Seduction and Surveillance of New Media (ICC WI and ICC DV) CRN# 10155 focuses on how new media (mobile, social, web, etc.) has led to some unanticipated outcomes that affect our personal life experience in both utopic and dystopic ways. We will also focus on how digital media has impacted the construction of individual and group identities, challenged inequality, and given a voice to people and populations that have been systematically marginalized.

Felice Russell, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, recently published an article with colleague Kerry Soo Von Esch, Assistant Professor at Seattle University, in Phi Delta Kappan. This editor-reviewed journal has a broad reach as it sits at the intersection of practice, policy, and research reaching K-12 educators, K-12 higher education faculty, and policy makers. The journal accepts about 10% of all submitted manuscripts.

The Image Text Ithaca Press, edited and published by Nicholas Muellner (Photography) and Catherine Taylor (Writing), recently co-published My Birth by Carmen Winant. The book and Winant's associated exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, were featured in Vogue and The New Yorker.  The book was launched on March 12, 2018 at Printed Matter book store in New York City, where the advance run sold out to a large crowd with many Ithaca College students and alumni in attendance.

The Ithaca College Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the college’s operating budget for the 2018–19 fiscal year. We want to take a moment to thank those who worked diligently to create and refine this budget: the faculty, staff, and students who comprise the college’s Institutional Effectiveness and Budget Committee; the members of our senior leadership team; the members of the board’s finance committee; and the members of the board of trustees. The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures is extremely pleased to announce that French and Spanish double major Kaitlyn Matrassi '17 has been named a Dean's Fellow at Columbia University and will begin her graduate career in French/Francophone Studies in fall 2018. Kaitlyn graduated summa cum laude in May 2017, having also completed an honors thesis entitled, "Le paradoxe du voile: Femmes musulmanes et laïcité," which focused on the contradictions of the veil laws and burkini bans in France.  She has spent the last year teaching English in Challans, France under the auspices of the Cultural Services Office of the French Embassy. We are very proud of her! Félicitations! Bravo!

Environmental Studies Alumna, Denise O’Leary '17, was invited by Sustainable Tompkins to read her nonfiction memoir essay about family affected by a devastating Philippine typhoon at Ithaca’s Earth Day celebrations. The piece, “Surge,” was initially a product of her work in Fae Dremock’s ENVS 36000 class on humanities issues involved in Katrina. The piece was revised and submitted to Alluvian, and published in the fall 2017 issue.

Three collaborative research projects from six exercise science (sport psychology) students have recently been accepted for poster presentations at the European Congress of Sport Sciences in Ireland, Dublin. The conference is one of the biggest congresses in this discipline world-wide.

Seeking Vocal Performers

Colleges Against Cancer is seeking talented singers to perform at Ithaca College's Relay for Life on April 7th at 8pm. Relay for Life is one of Ithaca's largest events aimed at honoring those who have been affected by cancer. 

Performers will be asked to prepare a few songs that would be appropriate for the Luminaria ceremony. The Luminaria Ceremony is a ceremony of remembrance and hope. It is a way to honor survivors and those who have lost the battle to cancer.

This installment of the lunch series will include ALANA faculty and staff, and will take place on Friday, March 30 from 12:00 - 1:15 p.m.

The women’s swimming and diving team will be offering their annual Spring Swim Lessons! This is a great opportunity to refine swimming skills before the summer! Whether you or your child wants to continue growing in the pool after the previous fall lessons, they need work on refining their strokes and turns, or if you’re training for a triathlon, the swim team is here to help! We invite all different ages and skill abilities to participate.

A member of the team will teach participants in either a private lesson or in a group of two.  We are offering 30 minute lessons; or for a person older than 5 and of a lap swimming level he/she may sign up 2 consecutive sessions (hour long lesson). The sessions are 10:00-10:30, 10:45-11:15, 11:30-12:00. Please sign up by March 28th.
