Additional spaces have been opened for upper-level students IN ALL MAJORS for a three-credit media studies course devoted to the representation of race, gender, class, gender identity, and sexuality on classical and contemporary American television programming. The course is taught synchronously on Monday evenings, 6:50 – 9:30 PM.  The course fulfills the Writing Intensive and Diversity requirements for the ICC.

Dear Ithaca College Community,

The Ithaca College Public Health Task Force, which President Shirley M. Collado announced in her August 18 message to the campus community, has formally convened. This group will support my work as Director of Public Health Emergency Preparedness, building upon the tremendous foundation laid over the summer by the Return to Campus Task Force and its associated subgroups, which prepared the college’s reopening plan submitted to the state in August.

As Ithaca College continues efforts to prioritize the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the wider Ithaca community, it has launched an online form through which unsafe behaviors can be reported. In addition, the college has created the position of Off-Campus Community Living Coordinator to serve as a support resource for students living in the Ithaca community, whether they are fully remote or attending on-campus classes.

Andy Smith (Biology) was interviewed by BBC radio to talk about his research on sticky animal secretions. The interview was part of an episode for their CrowdScience program called "What is the point of slime?". In the interview, Dr. Smith talks about the molecular structure of slime and how it gives rise to unusual properties. In particular, some slimes are remarkably sticky, and extraordinarily difficult to wash off. The discussion of slime's structure is followed by other interviews focusing on the diversity of slimes in the animal kingdom and their impact on humans before returning to Dr. Smith's work and the potential for designing novel adhesives for medical use.

Some of our students are transgender, genderqueer, nonbinary, agender, or have another gender identity and may use a name different from their birth name.
