Ithaca College is partnering with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier again this year to bring a mobile food pantry to our campus. The first date for the food pantry is this week - Wednesday, September 6th! Additional dates below.

The Mobile Food Pantry is used to deliver fresh produce, dairy products, and other food and grocery items directly to distribution sites where people need food. These food items are available free of charge. More info on the Mobile Food Pantry program can be found here.

On Saturday, September 9, at 8:15 pm in Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center for Music, Journey West will present a multimedia concert, including Klezmer music, Middle Eastern music, music from across Europe, and traditional American fiddle music. The concert is free and open to the public.

 “Dream and Legacy: Dr. Martin Luther King in the Post-Civil Rights Era,” published by the University of Mississippi Press, will include a chapter by Donathan Brown, associate professor of communication studies.  The chapter focuses on voting rights.

 Julia Lapp authored a chapter titled New York State Cheese: Nineteenth and twentieth century transformations in the book Cheese Manufacturing in the Twentieth Century: The Italian Experience in an International Context (Eds. Claudio Besana & Rita d"Errico, P.I.E. Lang Publishers, Brussels). The chapter is about the role that NY cheese played in shaping the industry today, with a focus on Italian cheese production. NY State was the leading cheese producing state in the U.S. up until 1910. Many of the biggest innovations of cheese manufacture in North America occurred in NY state, for example, the first "cheese factory", the technology to measure butterfat content of milk, and mechanized methods of making mozzarella.

Stewart Auyash participated and presented at two workshops at the 2017 Visible Evidence, an international conference on documentary film and media in Buenos Aires, Argentina in August 2017.   Professor Auyash presented The Digital Cartographies of Comparative of Global Health in workshops entitled “Cartographies of Participatory New Media: Critical Pedagogies and Social Impact I and II.”

 

Director of Jazz Studies Mike Titlebaum has returned from sabbatical leave spent at Ithaca College's London Center, and will present his band "Music Because Music" in a faculty recital in the School of Music.

In support of sustainable food systems and healthy eating, Ithaca Dining Services and the Humane Society of the United States hosted Forward Food on August 3rd

Over thirty guests from regional universities, healthcare facilities, and corporations were in attendance to enhance their knowledge on the benefits of eating a plant-based diet. “Forward Food is a program that teaches food and nutrition professionals to learn the importance of supporting healthy and sustainable living in their communities and how to help achieve a more profitable, healthy, and sustainable dining operation,” said Stephanie Heath-Higgins, Food Policy Coordinator—Upstate New York, Humane Society of the United States. Forward Food events bring together food service professionals, industry leaders and others to meet in a peer-to-peer environment, gaining insights into the latest trends in both implementing and marketing plant-based food programs.

The Study Abroad Ice Cream Social  is coming up soon! This event features a panel of IC study abroad alumni who studied with all different types of programs, in countries across the globe. They will discuss their international experiences, provide advice, and answer questions, all while you enjoy unlimited make-your-own sundaes!  The Social will be held Monday, September 18, 6:00-7:00, in the Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center.
