Nathan's research project while at Ithaca College resulted in the paper Figures and First Years: An Analysis of Calculus Students' Use of Figures in Technical Reports, which appeared in the recent issue of Numeracy. Faculty members play an important role in the lives of students that extends beyond the teaching of course material. The staff of IC Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) recognizes faculty’s potential to influence student’s attitudes about mental health care. We know the stigma about accessing mental health services cause some students to suffer needlessly. Project Look Sharp is excited to announce that Cyndy Scheibe and Chris Sperry were featured at the 2017 National Association of Media Literacy Educators Conference, “Engaging Citizens, Building Community”. The conference was held on June 26-28th at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.

Professor of Math Tom Pfaff's blog Sustainability Math has been named one of the top 75 Sustainability Blogs by Feedspot.  The blog provide quantitative literacy and math resources for instructors interested in infusing sustainability into their teaching.  Check it out at sustainabilitymath.org.

Math major, Britney Mazzetta, presented her research, "Predicting U.S. Childhood Obesity through Mathematical Modeling", at the MAA MathFest in Chicago, July 26-29.  She was awarded a Student Speaker Award from Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honor society for mathematics.

Each program of the GWTI has a specific theme.  The August 1-5 session was Martha Washington and the Women of the Eighteenth Century.  Conger was invited to participate as a scholar of early American women’s history.  On August 2, she led a session entitled “The Law, Marriage & Widowhood.”

Teaching and Learning with Technology (IT) is upgrading Sakai on Monday, August 14th. Sakai will be inaccessible from 5:30 am - 2:30 pm. Staff will be testing the system after the upgrade to make sure all functionality is restored by 5:00 pm. Any content you have created before August 14th will be available after the upgrade.
