I am pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Freeman as the director of procurement.  Doug has served as Ithaca College’s Sourcing Manager since he arrived here in August of 2016.  He  has an in-depth knowledge of procurement and its related processes.  Prior to his arrival at Ithaca College, Doug served as the Director of Purchasing at Syracuse University for nine years.  He also served in other capacities at Syracuse University during his tenure.

Introduction to Journalism offers you an opportunity to learn the news- and sports-writing skills that generations of students have mastered. On your first day, you'll memorize Jefferson's First Amendment to the Constitution and record it as your first TV reporting stand-up. You'll learn Associated Press Style and cover news on deadline. For your final assignment, you'll investigate and cover a long-form story, either in video documentary or magazine format.

On April 12, ten ENVS students attended graduate classes during professional team presentations and met individually with policy team members, other graduate students, professors, and the director of the program. Thanks to the efforts of Rebecca Brenner, formerly of Ithaca College, now teaching at Cornell, this visit is the start of an informal pathway for ENVS students to explore and gain insight into careers in environmental policy.

Several ENVS students competed in the 2017 Policy Case Competition coordinated by the Politics Society at NYU. First developed in 2014, the Policy Case Competition is a three-round, highly competitive exercise where students are given the opportunity to learn and refine their policy-making and presentation skills. 

Zach Jacobsen, an environmental studies senior took the initiative to create a competition team including ENVS seniors Zoe Workstel, Chase Lurgio, and Zack Luckin. Together they developed and submitted a written policy memo outlining their key issues and propositions on an element of environmental policy. Although they did not continue to the final rounds, we applaud their passion and initiative in going beyond their program to compete in policy with peers from all around the nation.   

An online Ithaca College course on Environmental Ethics will be taught during Summer Session I (May 30 – June 30, 2017).  It can be taken from any location whatsoever provided there is access to the internet, and the class structure is designed with the flexibility needed to accommodate students' summer work schedules, whatever those may be.

  HLTH 22700 Stress: Its Nature and Management discusses the impact of stress on your health and strategies to use stress to your advantage for optimal achievement. While we often tend to think of stress in negative terms, stress when managed can be a positive force in our lives. This course is offered from May 15th to May 26th. The course offers you maximum flexibility; it is asynchronous, meaning that you do not need to be online at any specific time.  This course is designated as ICC Mind, Body Spirit – Natural Science or Social Science Perspective, Liberal Arts.  For more information, contact the instructor at wuest@ithaca.edu.
