The club Ithaca College Unites For HER has participated in fundraising efforts to provide a grant to any student, faculty or immediate family member of theirs affected by breast cancer. This grant is to help pay for integrative, complementary therapies to help those who are going through or have gone through breast cancer treatment. These therapies include acupuncture, yoga classes, massage therapy, and nutrition counseling among others. (67 words) IC Mourns the Loss of Roberta Peters Fields, Honorary Trustee and Legendary Opera SingerContributed by Chris Pollock on 01/21/17 Roberta Peters Fields, Parent '79, world-famous opera singer and an Ithaca College honorary trustee, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. She was 86 years old. Known professionally as Roberta Peters, she worked in multiple mediums: opera, concert, television, musical comedy and as a recording artist. During her long career she was especially noted for coloratura roles — those requiring high, light agile singing in virtuosic arias. She developed an early love for singing, and at the age of 19, she made her star debut at the Metropolitan Opera, which opened the door to a lengthy and successful career. Read more . . . Writers, and later film-makers, have addressed the problem of authoritarianism since the early republican period (1808-1821) and have produced works that have criticized and analyzed repressive political systems, but also what I will call “domestic or local authoritarian systems as embodied in patriarchy, racism, and classism.
