TVR 46000-61 SENIOR SEMINAR: YOUTH/MEDIA/CULTURE, a three credit-course on youth-oriented American culture (TV, film, video games, music, and social media), will be offered as an online course this summer during Session I. The course fulfills a requirement for Television-Radio majors but is open to the entire campus.

Entire Campus Power Shutdowns:  In order to perform required maintenance and complete upgrades on the campus electrical infrastructure, the Office of Facilities will be conducting two campus wide power shutdowns.  Power will be turned off to the entire campus beginning at 6:00am and will be restored in the evening hours when work has been completed (approximately 6:00pm).  The dates are as follows.

 

            Saturday, June 4, 2016
            Sunday, August 14, 2016

Intermittent Power Shutdowns:  Additionally, several buildings will be without power or on generator back up power at various points during late May and early June.  We encourage members of the campus community to read the full details on how the power shutdowns may impact your specific building.  Please see the detailed announcement on the Facilities Website.

Ioanide, author of The Emotional Politics of Racism: How Feelings Trump Facts in an Era of Colorblindness, published a short piece on the role of racism in the current election and in politics more broadly. The IC Community is invited to post comments on the NYT page responding to the debate.

Digital Instruction and Information Services (DIIS) has extended hiring for the Fall 2016! Additional applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

DIIS will start offering interviews on Wednesday, May 18th and will continue to accept applications and schedule interviews through Friday, June 17th or until positions are filled.

As we come to the end of the academic year, I’d like to share an update on the recent activities and next steps for the Presidential Search Committee. For quick reference, here is a summary of the committee’s overarching timeline, which I describe in more detail below.

  • By the end of May: Share a summary of community input to date; finalize and share the prospectus.
  • June: Establish key operating principles and practices.
  • During the summer: Meet regularly to review candidates. Meetings are currently scheduled for June, July, and August.
  • During the fall semester: Thoughtfully engage with the community, interview candidates, identify finalists, and ultimately proceed to final appointment and announcement of our next president by the board.
  • Each month until the search concludes: Share an update with the whole IC community.

Sunday, May 1, 2016, marked Ithaca College’s 10th induction ceremony of new members held at the Coltivare Culinary Center in downtown Ithaca, NY. The induction featured remarks from faculty members such as Susan Rosenthal, Allison Shields, Hormoz Movassaghi, William Humphrey, and the Dean of the business school, Sean Reid. The distinguished speaker of the night was Brad Treat, Entrepreneur, and Educator, speaking on the topic of “Being the CEO of Your Own Career."

Mail Rooms are closed during the summer (Circles is partially open).

Students moving out of Ithaca for the summer will have unclaimed mail and packages forwarded home after Fri May 27. Any mail or packages received after this date will be forwarded home as well. (NOTE: Only US Mail can be forwarded at no cost. All other carriers require additional payment to ship packages to a new address. Contact us if you need assistance doing this).

Circles residents may still receive mail in their mailboxes up to the July 7 move out date. Packages are available to pick up from Phillips Hall Post Office until this date.

Following a national search, Ithaca College has announced the appointment of Gerard Turbide as vice president for enrollment management. With more than two decades of experience in the college’s admission program, Turbide has served as interim vice president since June of 2015.

He succeeds Eric Maguire, who accepted a position as vice president and dean of admission and financial aid at Franklin & Marshall College.

 OSEMA is seeking one student who is already approved by the office of risk management to drive college vehicles to participate in a week-long volunteer trip to Acadia National Park in Maine. The trip will be from Saturday, May 14 to Saturday, May 21.

There will be zero cost associated with your trip!!! You only need to assist with the driving.

The end of the semester is in sight... which means you'll be moving out sooner than you know. Help us reduce the amount of waste that heads to the landfill from Ithaca College!

Once again, Take It Or Leave It (TIOLI) bins will be in the lounges in the dorms during all of finals week for you to donate whatever you don't want that's in usable condition rather than throwing it in the dumpster before you move out. You can also take anything you like from the bins!
