Winners will be announced at this year’s SPJ Virtual Regional Conferences on April 10 and 14-15.. Regional winners will go on to compete against the winners in their categories from SPJ’s other 11 regions for SPJ’s national Mark of Excellence awards. The Leadership Scholar Program recognizes students with a demonstrated record of academic and co-curricular achievements. Students enter the program during their first year at Ithaca College and take on new leadership challenges every semester until they graduate. Components of the program include service projects, professional development, and active involvement in student organizations that is recorded in leadership portfolios, which are presented to administrators and peers every semester. The tenth annual Wheels for Women benefit cabaret, held on February 27th, was a record- breaking event for the IC student organization. A board comprised of twelve Department of Theatre Arts students, led by seniors Ronee Goldman and Teresa Gelsomini, worked diligently to face the challenges of offering a virtual cabaret.

Organizers of the 2nd Annual HSHP Interprofessional Education (IPE) Case Competition and Hackathon are pleased to announce the winning teams from our virtual event held on March 27th. Each team was tasked to address either a physical, emotional, or community health problem in Tompkins County due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 
The Ithacan has been named a finalist “in one or more categories” in this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 (Northeast Region) Mark of Excellence Awards competition. The awards are presented for work published during calendar year 2020 (Sophia Adamucci ’20, spring semester editor in chief; Madison Fernandez ’21, fall semester editor in chief).
The Ithacan has been named a Gold Medalist for 2019–20 in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual college publication critique. The judges evaluated issues of the paper, as well as the website, produced last academic year (Sophia Adamucci ’20, editor in chief; Zoë Freer-Hessler ‘20, managing editor). The CSPA critique consistently ranks The Ithacan as a Gold Medalist, its highest category. 
Chris Holmes, Associate Professor of English, co-edited a special issue of the journal Modern Fiction Studies (MFS).
The Ithacan was honored with a Silver Crown award by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in conjunction with the Spring National College Media Convention held online March 18-20, 2021. The award was presented in an online ceremony on March 20. 
Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies, has published a new book, Flash Flaherty: Tales from a Film Seminar (Indiana University Press, 2021). She co-edited the book with Scott MacDonald, with assistance from Julia Tulke.
