Introduction to Film Aesthetics and Analysis CNPH 10100 in the Roy H. Park School of Communications has now secured an ICC Diversity designation. It is now open to all students on campus. The course runs ONLY in the Fall semester. Those students seeking courses to fulfill the ICC Diversity requirement should register for seats now. The course is team taught with faculty with different national cinema and mode/genre specializations. Introduction to Film Aesthetics and Analysis provides a survey of multicultural and international cinemas from 1895 to 2020. It trains students in how to actively "read" a film rather than to passively "consume" a movie. The course focuses on the aesthetics, history, economics, industry, and politics of multiple forms of cinema across narrative, documentary, and experimental modes. Read more . . . (73 words)

As we near the start of the fall semester, there may be members of our student community who have settled into their remote location only to find they are having a hardship communicating with their classes and/or professor. Perhaps they lack a piece of equipment, are missing an app, or lack the necessary WIFI needed to connect—whatever the issue may be, the College is committed to supporting students. The Opioid Overdose Prevention Training Workshop is a skill-building program presented by staff from Southern Tier AIDS Program (STAP). The workshop is designed to help you in recognizing and preventing fatal opioid overdoses. Participants will learn basic information about opioid drugs, harm reduction, signs of overdose, and how to administer naloxone in the case of an medical emergency. Participants who complete the training will receive an identification card that they can use to obtain a free naloxone kit at the STAP location in downtown Ithaca. Read more . . . In a collaborative partnership with Hillel, student financial services, and dining and auxiliary services, swipe out hunger will be launching again when students return to campus this spring. Students can donate up to two Guest meal swipes per semester, completely anonymously. Donated Swipes are pooled and reallocated through student financial services. Students who utilize the program receive packages of 15 Guest meal passes automatically uploaded onto their student ID cards, whether or not they have a meal plan. This can be “reloaded” as many times as a student needs. These guest meal passes can be used at any dining facility on campus where the meal plan is accepted. Swipe Out Hunger was started on Ithaca College’s campus in 2018 by Hillel Intern Unagh Frank, and to date it has collected more than 3000 meals. Al-Anon is a mutual support groups for people whose lives have been affected by someone else's addiction. Al-Anon meets weekly at Ithaca College. Meetings are held in the Phillips Room of Muller Chapel every Wednesday from 12:00-12:50 pm. The group, officially called the South Hill Higher Ground Al-Anon Family Group, is not affiliated with Ithaca College and is open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Ithaca community beyond the campus who seek support. The purpose of the meeting is to establish ongoing on-campus support for those who have loved ones contending with addiction. Everything shared by individuals at these meetings will be kept confidential. As posted to the CDC website on 9/27/19: CDC, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), state and local health departments, and other clinical and public health partners are investigating a multistate outbreak of lung injury associated with e-cigarette product use, or vaping. The latest findings from the investigation suggest products containing THC play a role in the outbreak. More information is needed to know whether one or more e-cigarette or vaping products, substances, or brand is responsible for the outbreak. The Center for Health Promotion would like to extend a warm thank you to the more than 900 IC students who completed the IC Student Wellness Survey this month. The random drawing prize winners have been selected and notified. The purpose of this survey is to assess the health and wellness needs of students so that campus programs and services can be improved to meet those needs. The IC Student Wellness Survey has been conducted biannually since 2003. Data from past NCHA surveys can be found on the Center for Health Promotion website. This year's data will be added when it becomes available to us later this semester.
