How much does efficiency matter in an endeavor – whether sport or agribusiness, microbiology or filmmaking? Does efficiency always yield productivity? and is productivity necessarily the goal? Does nature itself privilege these concepts? Is it ever acceptable to waste time, money, and resources? Through classtime interviews with professionals and experts from a wide range of fields, this course asks students to explore these concepts.

Come explore your voice in a fun, informal workshop with touring singer-songwriter Eli Conley at 12 noon on Friday April 17 in the Handwerker Gallery. Total beginners to experienced singers are welcome! Queer and transgender folks all too often find spaces focused on singing lacking relevance to our lives, awareness of our needs, and commitment to collective liberation. It is a powerful act for LGBTQ people and our straight and cisgender allies to find the power in our voices, listen deeply to each other as singers and raise our voices together in song.

Ask Big Questions (ABQ), a non-denominational fellowship in campus,  will host a campus-wide conversation regarding sexual assault.

Last Comedy Show of The Year !

 We bring you funny man Alingon Mitra on Tuesday, April 14th. He performs his comedic talents in IC Square at 8:00 p.m. Alingon has been on Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central, The Late Late Show, Conan and his twitter profile even mentions public transportation. SAB is quite impressed with his resume! So lets see how many IC students we can gather in the pub! Let's enjoy the last comedy show of the year and see just how funny Alingon is.

Volunteers Needed!

Looking for a fun way to volunteer? Want to skip the lines at IC Kicks Back? Then volunteer at IC Kicks back on May 1, from 2pm-6pm.

 

You can volunteer in a variety of ways:

·        Maintaining lines for the inflatables and photo booths

·        Checking IDs

·        Taking photos of the event

·        Line control

A FREE IC Kicks Back T-shirt will be included!

Modern Languages and Literatures is happy to be able to provide free, drop-in tutoring for students enrolled in various language courses during the spring 2015 semester. All sessions will be held in the Language and Cultural Exchange Cooperative (LCEC), Job 209. Sessions are as follows:

  • Arabic: Mondays from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • French: Fridays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • German: Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m.
  • Hebrew: Thursdays from 5:00 pm - 6:00 p.m.
  • Italian: Wednesdays from 2:00 pm - 4:00 p.m.
  • Spanish: Thursdays at the noon hour

Modern Languages and Literatures also offers some conversation groups for students to hone their language skills. Groups meet at the times and places indicated below:

  • French: Mondays from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in IC Square
  • German: Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m. in the LCEC
  • Italian: Wednesdays from 2:00 pm - 4:00 p.m. in the LCEC
  • Spanish: Sundays at 3 pm and Tuesdays at the noon hour in the LCEC

A tertulia is a social gathering with literary or artistic overtones, especially in Spain or Latin America. If you are a student of Spanish, speak Spanish at home and miss speaking it on campus, or if you are simply looking to meet others who are passionate about the Spanish-speaking world and its cultures, then please join us.

When & Where: Sundays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and Tuesdays during the common noon hour. Both sessions are held in Job 209, the LCEC.

Why: This is a great opportunity for you to  practice your Spanish language skills in a supportive, relaxed environment with native or near-native speakers of Spanish. Students of all language abilities are welcome.
