The Human Expression through the Arts: a Resident Development program, more commonly referred to as HEARD is a group of students who volunteer their time to engage in creative arts outreach with residents at the MacCormick Secure Center in Brooktondale, NY.  The volunteers recently completed half of a larger mural project (pictured above), which is going to be laminated and placed on the wall at the Center.  Congratulations on all your hard work!

Film Fervor Magazine is a new student organization that focuses on sharing and expressing a love, passion, and respect for cinema.  Already this semester, Film Fervor Magazine has held two successful movie screenings.  They have shown both “The Night of the Hunter” and “La Haine.”  There is another film screening coming up in March of “The Fly.”  The movies chosen fall within many different genres, styles, and time periods, but all draw from the members’ passion for film.  Keep up the consistent planning of great events!

The IC Game Developer’s Club (ICDC) is a student organization dedicated to creating video games and participating in game design tournaments.  Earlier this semester, ICDC hosted the Global Game Jam, a national 48-hour game-making marathon. Prizes were given away and three demo games were made among the 15 participants who attended.  The group was even featured in a blog post on an up-and-coming game trading website.  ICDC also hosted a talk last week with Kevin Zuhn and John Murphy, the designers of the popular indie game Octodad. This past weekend, seven members of newly recognized IC Women in Computing (ICWC) went to Rochester, NY to compete in WiC Hacks, a hackathon sponsored by the Rochester Institute of Technology for female college and high school students.  ICWC’s mission is to support women in computer science through various personal and professional development opportunities.  Congratulations on competing in the hackathon this past weekend and good luck at future competitions!

Have you heard or witnessed microaggressive behavior while on the court, on the field, or in the locker room? Athlete Ally, a student organization, has taken a stand to fight against homophobia and transphobia in the athletic communities here on the Ithaca College campus. According to President Chris Kelley, "[Athlete Ally] strives to build a culture of tolerance throughout the Ithaca community.” This student organization started when former president, Kyle James (current secretary & treasurer) heard about the national organization from a tweet by a professional football player. As James was struck with inspiration from his own personal experiences with this topic, he reached out to the founder of Athlete Ally. The founder encouraged James to start a collegiate chapter. With hard work and dedication, Ithaca College founded the first student-run chapter of Athlete Ally.

The campus voice mail system will be unavailable for approximately 2 hours starting at 5:00 AM on Wednesday, 3/11 due to system maintenance. During the maintenance, callers will not be able to access voice mail "trees" or leave/retrieve voice mail messages.

On Tuesday, March 10 the U-Lot (Campus Center) parking lot will be closed as reserved event parking until noon only.  From noon on, the lot will be available for general parking as per usual.  Individuals seeking handicapped parking can access the U-Lot's handicapped spaces at any time by speaking with the lot attendant during the reserved hours.

Crystal structure of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium dicarba-7,8-nido-undecaborate

The crystal structure of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium dicarba-7,8-nido-undecaborate was  published in specialized crystallographic journal.  The structure was solved using Ithaca College’s single crystal X-ray diffractometer facilities. This is  the FOURTH publication  which includes the crystallographic data collected on the single crystal X-ray diffractometer since it was purchased by IC Chemistry department in 2013.  The compound was synthesized in Anna Larsens' laboratory and crystal sample was prepared by Lars Sodertsrom and Max Klemes.  

The title compound  belongs to the class of new  low melting ionic materials with carborane cluster anions, investigated for their valuable electrochemical properties.
