At its October meeting, the Ithaca College Board of Trustees welcomed recently elected member Thad Fortin, who will serve a four-year term on the board.

Fortin is executive vice president and chief strategy officer at Wesco Aircraft, where he is responsible for global strategy, integration, business development (mergers & acquisitions) and global strategic marketing. Wesco is the parent company of Haas Group International, the world’s largest chemical management services company. Fortin had previously served for 33 years at Haas, most recently as chief executive officer.

Apple has released their latest operating system, OS X Yosemite (version 10.10). This is a free upgrade for most Apple computers and is available for download from the app store.

fixIT Shop Fall Break Hours

The fixIT Shop will be closed during fall break except for Thursday, October 16 from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Regular hours will resume on Monday, October 20 at 10:00 am. The Commencement Committee will be conducting a short series of fireworks tests on the east side of campus on Friday afternoon, October 17, 2014.

 

Note that these will be very short tests, and the shells will be (relatively) quiet as compared to “normal” fireworks.

 

The Friends 110 computer lab will be open 24/7 during the break. Printing is available from the WebPrint Release Station during the hours an ITS consultant is not on duty. Williams 210 computer lab will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15. Friends 110, Williams 210, and the fixIT shop will resume regular hours on Monday, October 20.

Once again, the men's and women's rowing team is offering to do jobs for the campus community.  You can hire 2 - 12 (or more!) workers to rake leaves, stack wood, dig ditches, clean garages, move furniture, or whatever you may need help with. 

When; Sunday afternoon, November 2, 2pm.

Where; Pick up your workers at the flag-pole outside Textor Hall on campus.  Return them to campus when the work is done.

How: Each worker costs $35.  The minimum order is two.  They are prepared to work until 5pm or until it gets dark.  E-mail Coach Dan at iccrew@ithaca.edu or call at 274-1266 to put in your request.  Individual workers have the right to turn down a job that they deem too risky.

Susan Kinne worked stateside for many years in the electronics and the semiconductor industry. In 1989 she moved to Nicaragua to join the National Engineering University, where she became a promoter of human empowerment through the sustainable use of resources, particularly renewable energies.  With her students she co-founded Grupo Fénix, which led to forming the Alternative Energy Sources Program at the UNI, the business Suni Solar and Las Mujeres Solares de Totogalpa (the Solar Women of Totogalpa).
